Oscar-nominated actor Owen Wilson has asked to be allowed to "heal in private" after he reportedly tried to commit suicide.

The Hollywood star was taken to hospital late on Sunday amid claims that he had cut his wrist and took a drugs overdose.
The Wedding Crashers actor had apparently been found at his home in Santa Monica, California, by a family member who raised the alarm.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and then moved to Cedars Sinai Medical Centre in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles, reports said.
Wilson's brother Luke, who is also an actor, and other family members were seen at Cedars Sinai, it was claimed.
Owen Wilson, 38, has released a statement saying: "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."
His spokeswoman, Ina Treciokas, declined to elaborate on the actor's statement or discuss his medical condition.
A fire official would only say that his officers and police went to Wilson's home and took a person to hospital.
The Texas-born actor, who has long blonde hair and a crooked nose, is known for playing charming rascals, mostly in comedies.
Wilson is also a writer and was nominated with director Wes Anderson for a best original screenplay Oscar for the 2002 offbeat comedy The Royal Tenenbaums, about a dysfunctional family.
In Wedding Crashers, he and co-star Vince Vaughn portrayed two men who show up uninvited at weddings in order to get dates.
Wilson recently starred in romantic comedy You, Me and Dupree playing a guy who moves into the home of his best friend and wreaks havoc on his pal's marriage.

I always thought he was a happy guy, but then again, most of us are on the outside. Hope he recovers well.

its the media's job not to give him provacy and get in his face. sometimes it really must suck to be famous...
hope he is feeling better soon and gets the help he needs though. so unfair that he has to go through this with is splashed all over the media.. it would make it so much harder... fingers crossed he gets through this without too much trouble.

Its hard enough when that happens to normal people, imagine if the newspapers and internet were constantly bugging you and spreading rumours. They make things a hundred times worse.
I hope he gets through this.

He caught his ex dating another man with his kid a month after breaking up with owen. Apparently it led to him doing a crystal meth and hillbilly heroin overdose before slashing his wrists (suicide attempt)
