PTSD. Advice welcomed.

I have PTSD. I was diagnosed by my GP in September this year, but I've had these symptoms since the event that caused the PTSD, 7 years ago.
My GP prescribed me some anti-depressants, and I've now tried several of them with little effect. However, I am not convinced that I'm depressed - it's more like I'm in pain - from the constant refusal of my past to just stay in the past.
I have been told it's common to treat PTSD with anti-depressants (whether or not depression is present) but this medication isn't helping me in any way. I have a doc's appnt for next week and I want to discuss whether another medication, or no medication, might be better.
I am not amazingly functional at the moment so I am trying to really think this through. Please ... any advice on meds would be welcomed.
Also, does anyone here have PTSD? I'm really struggling with lack of sleep and intrusive thoughts at the moment.
