BPD and self destructive behaviour.
So I know this sounds weird/disgusting but... I hope someone understands.
Basically, I've been diagnosed as BPD (although it's a matter of debate within my mental health team). I know that part of the criteria is self harm and suicidal behaviour, etc. but can "self destructive" mean other things too?
Like, I do stuff that I know isn't clever or safe but it's like, because I want to ruin myself in different ways. Drinking unsafely, being around dangerous/not very nice people, etc.
Does this make sense? Is it something to do with BPD or am I just crazy? Does anyone else suffer with this?

You're not crazy. Criteria-wise, it sounds like it could come under criterion 4:
4. impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

It sounds like it might be part of self damaging behaviors, because the intention is to harm yourself but it's not self mutilating or suicidal behavior, if that makes sense?

yeah BPD has the catch all criteria that means we have a tendency to be self destructive in general, i suspect that my ED comes into this

Over drinking and putting yourself in unsafe situations can DEFINITELY be considered self harm behavior. I was diagnosed with BPD last summer and I do things like over drinking too. Hope you're doing okay <3

Self-destructive behaviour can be anything that is negative to yourself, not just physically, but socially, emotionally, mentally, spiritually... The most obvious are self harming and suicidal behaviour, but as the criteria says, it can be reckless spending, substance abuse, binge eating...
For example, although I haven't self-harmed in six months I am still continuing with my self-destructive behaviour, which for me would be substance abuse (to an extent you wouldn't believe), my eating going all over the place, having sex with ex, and doing really stupid things like taking pictures of myself on a train line and other really stupid things.
