Derren Brown, the acclaimed psychological illusionist, returns to Channel 4 for an amazing 70 minute special on Wednesday 8th September at 10pm. Hero at 30,000 Feet takes an ‘average Joe’ on an extraordinary psychological journey which will culminate with him facing a life-changing decision of whether to take control of a Boeing 737 packed with passengers, which he believes is about to fall out of the sky. Viewers will also witness the extraordinary personal challenges the subject has already been through with Derren in the run up to this event, as he becomes empowered by life-skills that transform his unconfident character.
Derren Brown says: “I hope it’s a show that people take something from. We easily let life pass us by, and ultimately this is about engaging with life and understanding that it is the choices we make right now that define us, not what we’ve done in the past. “One unwitting volunteer gets to have a deep understanding of this, and for him to experience real and lasting change, I have to push him to the extreme.”
A master showman, Derren describes Hero at 30,000 Feet as his “favourite and most ambitious TV project to date” and promises to have the nation glued to their seats as the drama unfolds in his latest Channel 4 special. It follows the success of previous television specials such as Russian Roulette Live, Séance, The Heist and The Events – a series of four 1 hour specials which included How To Win The Lottery and How To Take Down A Casino.
His latest feat will see Derren using his powers to make positive, lasting change to someone’s life and has involved months of planning and secret filming. He says: “The show was born from a desire to do something edifying. The experience of doing it has been truly extraordinary: genuinely changing someone’s life in such a good way has left us all on cloud 9 ourselves.”
A few people are saying it was staged rah rah but even if it was (but I dont think so) it still really spoke to me and I found it really inspirational.

WOW! I loved this so much and really it was exactly what I needed to hear that night. I know what you mean about it being inspirational Sarah. I hope it comes out on DVD soon because I might need to watch it constantly as a pick-me-up!
You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you wish to make.
I quite like it. I have a strange compulsion to always have to watch Derren Brown's shows. Hhmm maybe he's already got to me...
But yeah t'was good. I agree with Rawrk in that the sleep thing was weird. Like he still thought he was asleep when he was out and about...in the cold etc. I would have thought it would be obvious(?)
The jack in the box on the doorstep all the time would have totally freaked me out though!!
Not sure I would Derren to get a hold of me without my consent...

He did have his consent, though. He did apply for a show (he just thought it was a gameshow hosted by Derren) and I know that they have to sign pretty comprehensive contracts allowing Derren to do pretty much anything he wants. I know that Channel 4 wouldnt let Derren do anything without lawyers having checked it all over first.
Basically, Derren would never pluck a random person off the street and start filming etc.

Oh yeah I forgot he was "auditioning" for that so called game show! Lol I still think it would be pretty scary for Derren to do anything he wants. He could potentially make you do anything. On the other hand the experience would be awesome. Especially one like this that basically could changed your life. I'd maybe be up for that : )

I watched this. Absolutely loved it.
He picks people who are easily moulded and who he believes he can influence strongly enough I guess. And the person wants to be influenced too, by being a contestant, I guess.
I still think its bloody awesome. Just, yeah.. but the jack in the box, who just carries on and doesnt ask A LOT of questions. Surely he must have known he was selected and that meant something big was going to happen. I cannot accept he didnt know to a much greater extent what he was in for, if not exactly what would happen.
The train thing freaked me out though. I mean, what the hell?? HOW could he be so damn sure? I thought the train might change tracks at the last minute but it appeared not to.
I'd hate to be on trick or treat and get the trick card. Like the guy who went into a photo booth in London and came out in Marrakesch.
That made me freak. I was so scared. I know he cant do that to someone who hasnt concented but the shear fact a person can do that is just, terrifying.
Maybe it's like the russian roulette thing- Derren was never in a position where he could have been hurt. It was blanks in the gun I think, definately he had some system going on where he knew exactly where the loaded chamber was.
So with the train, I dont know how but there must have been no possibility that Matt would have been hurt. Health and safety would have a heart attack!

Lol Sarah the heart attack comment made me think of the video game stunt Derren did. Have you seen that one. It's the one where the guys in the pub are playing a video game where they shoot zombies and things. Then Derren comes in and puts the guy playing in a trance state and when he wakes up he is 'in' the game with all these 'real' zombies and the likes! Heart attack much??!

I was checking my email and saw this: http://news.aol.co.uk/main-news/stor...-stunt/1275198 It's about the whole straight jacket, train stunt thing. I guess it has a point. It just got me thinking what would have happened if he couldn't get out or something. But then again I suppose Derren would make it pretty easy so he would get out.
But yeah I just thought you'd like to see.

Seriously, I'm scared of planes and if that had happened to me on the way to or back from my holiday or something, I'm pretty sure I would've opened those emergency doors and killed myself then and there. No WAY would I have put my hand up to help land a plane. xD
I'm gonna tap him like a maple tree. I'm gonna search him for some syrups. I'm gonna be having sex with him.
