Panic and Anxiety Disorders

Where do i begin. I need all the help i can get my life is so hard right now and dont know what to do. I have a thyriod problem and have had it since 1998 i wa put on medication and thought everything was fine. Then in 2006 i had a severe panic attack. It started off as my chest started burning and i started feeling like i was not even in my own body. I was scared i was going to die and was scared to do the smallest things. My doctor put me on wellbrutin and pexeva after a while of taking them i felt like myself again. well i stopped takng them last year and felt fine till a few months ago. Now i wake up everyday making myself put a smile on my face. Im depressed and sometimes i have panic attacks again. i went back to my doctor and she put me back on my meds but for some reason i dont think they will work. does anyone have and advice on what is a good medicine to take i need help.

We cant advise you about medications as none of us are doctors. If you have concerns about your medication you need to go back to your doctor and talk to her.

Have you considered talking therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)? Things like this, when used alongside medication or on their own, can be very beneficial.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.

I am currently:

What is it that makes you think the thyroid and panic attacks are link?

I agree with control freak in that medication alone is not enough to deal with anxiety. I would suggest speaking with your Dr and asking if they can recommend counselling, or therapy such as CBT, breathing excercises, Mindfullness or an Anxiety Course.

In the mean time, as soon as you can feel a panic attack coming on, sit down somewhere quiet and focus purely on your breathing, focusing on slowly breathing in through your nose/throat and out through your mouth.

It is also worth looking into what is triggering your anxiety and seeing if there are ways you can deal with the triggers, how you cope with them and what can be done to help that side of your anxiety.
