Anyone had Mirtazapine?x

Hiya everyone. I had an okay appt with my psychiatrist but he's concerned about my extremely low mood so I'm on a new antidepressant to try and help with that. It's mirtazapine. Has anyone tried it? Thank you so much for your support. Oh an he said it should also help with my anxiety and sleep. So bonus lol xxx

Yeah, it will definately help with your sleep. For the first week or so after you take it you'll probably feel like you've been knocked out! But it gets better.

Mirtazapine really helped with my mood for nine months before it stopped working. But be mindful it generally causes weight gain.

Okie doke, yeah one of my good friends is on it, and it really helps her too. Thank you so much for your message I am in a way looking forward to being knocked out (sounds awful doesn't it?! ) because I've not been sleeping hardly so yeah... sleep land here I come! haha. I just want something to make me feel not so... "rock bottom" and anxious to the point of needing my inhaler all the fricking time and every time I leave the house! He also said that the Pregabalin should help with my anxiety too when that dosage goes up (which I was put on for nerve pain by my pain Dr) I am feeling a little less anxious since the appointment which is amazing, as he was indeed so lovely to me as usual.

Lyssie xx

Been on it nearly 5 years.
Since not long after I joined RYL!
Helps me with sleep, and anxiety. And does 'chill me out' over night.
With the depression. Hmm. I dunno. But I am much more functional and more able to reflect now. Hard to tell what's the mirtaz. and what's the therapy.

Hey Lyssie!

I'm on Mirtazapine too, and yes, it REALLY helps with the sleep! It also helps with my anxiety; I notice if I miss it (if say, I fall asleep somewhere then go to bed without taking it or get drunk [bad] so don't take it) as before I was on it I would literally wake up in the middle of a panic attack. That has definitely improved!

Good luck on it, and I really hope you get the sleep you want! Btw, it says take an hour before bed; certainly for the 1st week make sure you are IN bed before you take it as it def didn't take an hour to work!

Yeah I see what you mean Katie. Thank you for your message, you've been on it for some times then and it's helped you lots it seems which is brilliant I also forgot to mention that they're going to get me in to be assessed by a psychologist I think to start with proper therapy. I think it was quite a productive appointment with my Dr to be honest so I'm pleased! xx

Thank you Katie

He wants to take me up to the max dose I think to get the best effects for my extreme anxiety and low moods and unable to sleep is an ongoing problem so I'm starting off at what he said was a low dose that wouldn't really be effective as it's just really getting my body used to it basically. For now anyway so hopefully well y'never know eh hopefully things will improve with time xx

Hi I've been on it for 4 years and it is working well still. I'm on 45mgs and the best effect is how it can help you sleep. I felt a bit dizzy and knocked out for the first few weeks but now I couldn't function without it.

I hope you find it helpful, glad your appointment went well. Take care.

Yeah I'm getting that way to be honest - not really being able to function, panic attack which seems to be absolutely constant these days! Gah! Yep he'll be bringing it up to 45mg, he's given me 7 days of 15mg then up it to 30mg after the 7 days of 15mg then 45mg... confuzzling :-S

I'm glad it help you too, Snow Leopard (sorry I don't know your name so don't mean to be rude just so you know )

Thank you everyone for being utterly supportive, I am so greatful for you guys xx

I first started taking it in hospital. I always had it at 10pm and I knew that I had ten minutes to have a cigarette before I would literally be asleep on my feet!

i was put on this when i was 13...knocked me out for 3 days andi never had it again...so i don't know...don't know if it was due to a high dosage or my age...though i do want to try it again, but i have to wait for stepps to finish again.

sorry, this was probably a useless reply

No not a useless reply, thank you for your message. I've taken it 2 times now and I feel completely knocked out but I think my body will get used to it. It's manageable for me if you see what I mean though. Not nearly as bad as when I had to go on Olanzapine and had no choice but to take it, but if I had a choice I would have knocked it after the first dose! Perhaps it was because of your age but everyone is different I guess...

xx
