Triggering (SI/OD) - Remeron (Mirtazapine)

I started taking it yesterday. I was wondering how your experiences are/were with this med.

Since I started taking it, I just feel so drowsy and I want to hurt myself more.

It just feels like I NEED to do something to relieve the anger!

i found it really good. The drowsiness wears off after about a week or so, but if its making you want to hurt yourself more then i suggest you speak to your doctor.

I find myself better on the 15mg dose now, more present, less sedated. But I did need the 30mg when I was on it. I've been on mirtaz. nearly 5 years now.

Not sure on it increasing self harm urges/anger. Since I have a bunch of that stored up already.... I guess I'll find out when I come off it...

Im on it and it doesnt do much for my depression. It does help me sleep though. A while after I first started talking it I fainted a couple of times and had a seizure. Also it made me hungry a lot of the time.

The drowsiness should wear off, if it doesnt your dose is probably too high. That happened to me and I spent about a week sleeping and waking up with terrible headaches.

I've worked out that I need to take it about 11-12 hours before I want to get up otherwise Im really tired in the morning. I usually get up around 8am so I take it around 8 or 9 the night before.

Hope this helps!

Helen

I'm on this and find it works really well. I agree it is incredibly sedating though so be careful when you take it.

let us know how you get on with it,

I didn't find it that sedating, maybe a bit drowsy, but hardly much. It made me gain weight, and have more of an appetite. It might have made me a bit more angry..
It was a pretty crap though. I was on it for about 7-8 months.

This was the first thing I was put on back in the day. It really helped with getting me to sleep as my insomnia was particularly bad but I did feel really spaced out and tired and zombiefied all day which was not fun. But it did help with the whole depression thing, weather that was because I was too tired to think about it or not so yeh...

I love this anti-depressant for myself.
it does work, & well, except, i piled on weight on it, which ended up bringing me down. (although they think it wasn't just the mirtazapine making me want to eat).
& i loved the fact it knocked me out, although make sure you go to sleep on a emptyish bladder, i woke up in the middle of the night needing the toilet & almost dived down the stairs as i was so drowsy on it.

When I changed from citalopram to mirtazapine, for about 3 weeks I was full of rage and completely self-destructive. I wanted to smash people in the face and scream and I was just so angry I was constantly shaking. It was kinda horrifying since I'm not like that at all. Its also weird considering I went straight onto 30mg, and the first day I slept for 16 hours straight... but yeah, it did fade, and really was a fantastic anti-depressant for me. I just eventually got to the point where even on 45mg I couldn't take having my sleep patterns totally controlling my life. Hopefully in a week or two the rage and self-destructiveness will fade a little and it'll statr workingw ell for you.

I tried it once but I found that every single dose made me feel like I wanted to vomit. In the end I got fed up of feeling like that, and stopped taking it.

It worked well, mostly helped me sleep, but did help a little with the depression, but I stopped it because the effects appeared to wear off only things felt worse when I stopped it, never stop it abruptly, if your like me & find it too sedating & doing little for your depression after you've been on it for a while, speak to your doctor, they'll ween you off gradually & change it to something else, I found the lower the dose the more sedating, & the higher the dose it gradually got less sedating & more anti-depressing, but always bear in mind every body is different, what helps me may not help you, anyway good luck :)

I found that it made me drowsy and gave me what I call my 'Mirtazapine belly.' It didn't help my depression at all but everyone is different and I hope that it helps you. Do you normally feel angry? There are lots of ways of dealing with anger such as punching a pillow, ripping up some paper, or going for a run. Good luck and take care.

I was on Mirtazipine for about 6 months in total. I didn't find it helped my mood much but it did help me sleep. I would say try and work through the side effects for now and give it a bit of time. It did make me gain a large amount of weight though.

It was like a miracle drug for nine months with regards to my depression. Then it suddenly stopped working and the dose was increased and increased and in the end I switched to trazodone.

I was also sleeping a lot on it and gained a lot of weight.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
