They might, some things contain agar or pectin instead of gelatine.

You can get a liquid form of many medications.
I asked my GP to not prescribe me the orodispersible version of my med, instead to have the tablet, because the oro. version was mint flavoured and could interfere with homeopathic medicine I take. She was fine about it.

I'm veggie and I have the same feeling when I don't realise something I've eaten contains gelatine (or meaty things). Just drink lots of water (i find it helps) and remember that you didn't knowingly consume it.
And there shouldn't be a problem changing the tablets, your doctor should have a few alternatives.
