Online friends/meet ups/dating sites

I'll keep it short.
I am nervous about going to bars and clubs meeting people. I just broke up with someone for nearly a year of dating. There arent really book clubs to be apart of to meet friends so easily. Like i said i can do the bar thing but i dont know.. here is my question and be completely honest.

How do you feel about making a profile on a dating site? I wouldnt want dates to be honest but just friends. I'm not ready for that kinda thing. But anyways yeah, what do you feel about them? Not the kind you have to pay for... thats too much lol.

I would love your honest opinion/experience/stories. Thanks all take care <3

Ive thought about this myself. Pretty much in exactly the same way. Ive thought about making the worlds first 100% honest profile and saying where i am and whats happened just to see if anyone would be a friend knowing all my poo.

to answer your question i dont think there is anything wrong with it. you can clearly specify friendship only on some sites. more and more people are using dating and friendship sites to meet people so if you are brave enough then go for it!! Then give us all the juicy gossip :P

I'm doing the internet dating thing after a really horrid end to my last relationship. I've tried googling and there seem to be plenty of dating-type sites for making friends.

What you've got to remember is that everyone's there for the same thing - most people are genuine and really hoping just to find something good. It's really nerve-racking, meeting up with someone for the first time but you just chat and see what you've got in common.

I've not met the right person yet, but it's good fun looking for them!

i know a person that had one extremely bad experience from it. anyway to make a long story short. when she broke up with the guy he hacked into her computer and stalked her. it was a complete nightmare for her for about 6 to 8 months.

thanks for the responces. wow that was a nightmare yordi! i tried it for one day and deleted it.. i dont know i guess i'm just not ready in general. i'm still hurt by the break up and cant see myself meeting up w anybody w a smile.. thanks everyone. more stories are always welcome.

I met alot of nice people online some years ago, only friends i had to be honest, met up with a few of them n despite being terrified n freaked coz of the whole new situation bit it turned out well for the most part. Love laughs and understanding i wouldn't have had otherwise.
I'd been talking to them online for a wee while first n then phonecalls too so felt i knew them enough and got a feel for what kind of people they were first. Trust yourself, try not to get wrapped up in expectation, enjoy the experience and mostly do it only when you feel it's the right time. Be safe!

Added bonus, it allowed me to challenge other fears i had, travelling alone away from home, new places. Can't quite believe i had the bottle now, i barely left my bedroom before that period of my life. Good times though! Been toying with the idea again myself of late.
