Anxiety medication??

Hi. Just been to my doctor's and he prescribed me 80MG of Propranolol for my anxiety issues. Does anyone know if it's any good? He didn't explain too much about it...

Also, does it work immediately? Thanks.

Propranolol can be effective. It is actually a blood pressure medication, but had many other uses. I was prescribed it to help prevent migraine headaches, but it helped my anxiety, too.

Make sure you understand the instructions on the medications. Some people take it only when they are anxious, other take it on a regular basis to help keep anxiety down all the time.

Your pharmacist is a good source of information about the medication, and don't be afraid to ask your doctor for more information as well.

Good luck!

Thanks. I've been advised to take it daily. Would you say it worked straight away, or does it take a few weeks to actually kick in?

hiya i've been on propranolol before. It's a beta blocker, which basically slows down your heart rate. I found it okay, i had to give it a few weeks though.

But if i still believe you love me, maybe i'll survive.
So i tell myself you're coming home, like you've done a million times.
& if it's alright, i'll still be loving you.
'cause i can't break it to my heart.

It will only help your physical responses to anxiety- so the shaking and fast heart rate. The anxious thoughts will still be there.

I tried it for a while, but cant really remember if it helped or not.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.

I was on it; it helped ease the phyiscal symptoms which, in turn, made it easier to control the thoughts. However, it didn't make them go away. Good luck

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. I've been on in a few days and am feeling some effects. When I get anxious or angry (the anger usually ran side by side with my anxiety) it'll suddenly get to a point and then just evaporate... Kinda like numbing it. Is this what other people have felt?

Urgh. Have had headaches and lethargy since taking it. Are these normal side effects?
