Timing Out
Can you help me with something. Is there a way to extend the amount of time allowed before a page 'times out' and you end up no longer being logged into the site.
The number of times I have lost threads, or replies because of this is getting beyond annoying.
I know I am one of those peoples that sometimes goes into a bit of fugue half way through a sentance, but on the most part I am just writing a reply during this supposed lull of inactivity.
Today, I was writing a reply to a comment on my own thread. I clicked to post it and it came up with a message saying I was no longer logged in (despite having replied to 4 other posts before my own thread and having been reading the comment and then trying to post a thought through response) I then went to copy the text so I could re-put it in once I had logged in again, but the page auto-refreshed and now I have lost it.
I really have neither the time or energy to re-write the whole thing and am going to have to re-write it tonight - as it needs saying.
To get to the point - What is the cut off time, before the site logs people off and is there any way of extending this, either across the board, or for individual people?
Thanks in advance.

I think it's 5 minutes. But if you tick the remember me box then you don't get logged out.

^ What Andrea said. If you press 'remember me', it keeps you logged in.
I've also got into the habit of copying any long post before I post it, just in case the internet does crash or I do get logged out or whatever. I don't necessarily copy it to anywhere, just ctrl+c it in case.
Do understand your frustration, though :)

I'm not sure if it always works, but once before i've done this and when it asks you to log in again -because of inactivity , i've typed my password again and it's posted my message. Hope this is maybe along the lines of what's happened.

I do have the 'remember me' box ticked. At home, and in the office at work (worth knowing I log in to RYL during my lunch hour each day and read and reply whilst eating lunch).
Daemon - I do not understand what you mean about cookies?
Catharsis - this does not always work, unfortunately - such as the time today.. so I loose the posts.
I am going to try to get more into the habit of copying the thread, but feel 5 minutes is definitely not enough time for anyone (who is a member) to use a website for before it boots them out.

The problem is, leaving it any longer risks privacy. If you go and make a cup of tea, five minutes is just enough to leave the computer logged on, come back and be sorted - any longer and you're risking somebody coming and checking on what you're doing.
Understand what you're saying, and it's definitely worth considering, but I do think the limit of inactivity is long enough. Saying that, I do copy everything before I post.
Have you tried clearing your cookies? (I think that's what Andy was referring to?) That can help solve problems like the 'remember me' thing.
