After a long road with different mental health professionals (surely not lol!) I was finally diagnosed last year with a dual diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (diagnosed 2007) and Bipolar Disorder (diagnosed 2009). As I was feeling quite stable, I was discharged from MH services last November.
Recently, I've not been feeling so well again (verging on a manic episode)... and so went to my GP who referred me back for a medication review (my meds were never updated once I had the Bipolar diagnosis, but this was largely coz I was generally well at that point). As I have moved last summer, it's a different mental health team/consultant etc...
I had expected simply a full meds review, but they seemed to go over all again about diagnoses, and the lady concluded (after an hour) that apparently she doesn't think I have Bipolar... AAAAAARGH! This seems to be just going all round a loop I thought I'd moved on from...
Does anyone know if I can choose to go back to my previous consultant who gave me the Bipolar diagnosis? I'd met with him 6-7 times & he was really helpful and I felt he'd really made an effort to understand my illness and its effects... His clinic is around 8 miles away, the one I went to this week is about 6!... It is part of the same PCT...
I did try to look on the NHS website, but it suggests that choices that apply to consultants etc don't apply to MH services... See

Can anyone give me some help/advice as I'm pretty frustrated... It feels a bit like Groundhog day!...
