It is possible, but I think it's not as common as suffering from one or the other.

no, but i have only recently accepted my diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, but have been doing a lot of reading, and although i fit the criteria for borderline, i also fit a lot for bipolar... i was going to ask my cpn what she though, but she's new and doesn't really know me, so wouldn't be much point... i was diagnosed with depression a few years ago, but they keep changing it, borderline has kept the same for a couple of years though,

Bipolar and BPD have some overlap but often there is quite a distinction. There is also a very different basis/root to each.
It's really important not to try and self-diagnose, or read up on disorders, it's so easy for people to start subconsciously displaying symptoms of a disorder they have been researching.
Talk to your Dr/CPN about what you are experiencing, try not to focus so much on the symptoms, but how you are feeling and thinking.
Take care

i have thought for a while about maybe being on the bipolar spectrum, even before i really knew too much about it. i know other people with bipolar, and they say that i kinda fit in to he diagnosis. i know its bad to read too much stuff, but i need to know as much as i can about stuff, kinda like paranoia. i get anxious if i dont know things. i'm seeing my cpn on friday, will discuss my thoughts with her.

Hi,
yeah you can be diagnosed with both, originally i was diagnosed with borderline PD and cyclothymia. however in the last year or so my cyclothymia has developed in to full bipolar disorder and i still have the back ground diagnosis of borderline as well.

dont know if that is much help.

take care xx

regardless of whatever the problem is, treat the symptoms, treat the effects on you, not the effects the internet says a certain illness (that you may or may not have) will cause.

See a dr/psychatrist if concerned and discuss your problems not symptoms of bipolar.

I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free.

I am diagnosed as both bipolar and BPD!
When I went to uni I was transfered to a different psych, GP and CPN/social worker.
There they diagnosised me as bipolar but my Dr from home was saying I had BPD....
Because they never bothered their asses to get together and actually talk about it, i been giving both as well as an eating disorder. That kinda pisses me off though knowing that Ive been giving a triple diagnosis because they havent talked about it =|

Each tear drop falls with sorrow, hoping and praying for another tomorrow!

yes, personality disordes and mood disorders usually go hand in hand and you can have both.
