Pathological Overian Cyst

Anyone had one? I've been having symptoms rather like a kidney infection and have been diagnosed with a left psychological overian cyst.

I was admitted to hospital, have been discharged and told to wait. It will either go away on it's own or I'll need a gyno referral.

I don't want to risk leaving it really incase in becomes cancerous.

My Dad has terminal cancer at the moment :(

I'm going into my third year at Uni.

if the doctor thought there was a risk that it can become worse then he wouldnt let you wait for a referral.
i know is stressful and scarey but you need to reassure yourself that you are going to be ok.

I agree with Michelle, if they doctor thought it would put you at risk you would have got the referral. Try and remind yourself of this

Hi hun.
I've had several ovarian cysts.
I had my first ones in 2000 - the first knowledge I had of them was severe abdominal pain on the closing night of the Sydney Olympics.
Because of my situation (the location of the pain meant they couldn't rule out appendicitis) I had surgery the next day - but I just had 2 ovarian cysts. One whole, one ruptured - the ruptured cyst explaining the pain echoing appendicitis.
My next ovarian cyst occurred less than two weeks later and passed normally, as have the majority of the rest of the cysts I have had since. Which has earned me the lovely label of polycystic ovarian syndrome.
I'm wondering what you mean by "psychological" - do you mean brought about by stress and anxiety?
Cysts are really common and generally aren't a problem and pass by themselves which will be why they want you to wait. I can understand your concern about not wanting to have deal with a cancerous situation though.
Oh, and yeah Dermoid cysts, which can contain hair and teeth are occasionally found in the ovary, but from the reading I've done they are really uncommon.

Sorry, I just wanted to say that I can understand your concern at having to wait and see, but I have to agree with Michelle and Kat - if the doctors thought you were at risk they wouldn't wait. You are going to be okay hun.

thank you for shaing your experience - I mean't pathological is as opposed to a functional cyst which normally passes without trouble.

The pain seems to have eased now I'm nearing the end of my cycle.

I just don't like the fact that everything I read suggests pathological cysts shouldn't be left.

Im unsure on the pathological bit.
I have however had an ovarian cyst.
I was in a lot of pain at the time but due to my past medical history they could not operate for a few days. The docs were concerned with mine as it was considered a large one (Think it was about 15cm) so they ran an ultra sound everyday. It changed size and decreased a fair bit. They probably would have left mine, but I was still experiencing some pain and again my history they didnt want to take risks. So I went and had open surgery to remove it.

They did discover I had an acute appendicitis as well as the cyst. So overall, not sure which one was causing the pain.

f you have been reffered then the chances are it isnt going to cause a problem. (My friend was diagnosed with one and reffered. By the time she was seen it had gone) So unless you develop a temperture or a lot of pain, I really wouldnt worry about it.
