Seeing Someone

So a friend has convinced me to go see a GP about my depression and anxiety issues and they're going with me. It's probably for the best since I'd be too busy hiding under the chair pretending I don't exist to actually talk to the doctor about it. I'm worried that the doctor might ask me something I'm not comfortable talking about in front of my friend. What should I do? I know that I need to do this but I'm terrified.

The doctor might not let your friend with you. I hope it goes well and you are making the right decision talking to somebody about it.

Thanks. I'm apparently allowed to have someone in with me as long as I consent to it. Apparently they will be asked to leave before I have to answer the questions. What kind of questions is the doctor likely to ask me?

You can definitely bring a friend a long. I used to bring a friend to all my appointments.

Good luck, I hope your doctor is helpful :)

All the best for your appointment, it will go okay.

I have been the patient and the friend in this situation.
I was not asked to leave before the doctor asked me any questions although I think my friend was completely comfortable with me there. However you can say that you would rather do the questions alone.

When I was the patient, I was only really asked:

When it started
How long its been
Are there any triggers to each episode
Period stuff
has there been any major life changes
What you want them to do for you

I wish you the best of luck with it :) and I hope you feel better afterwards. I was shitting myself when I went and the second time I went I was alone so it was made worse but then in the longrun I feel more independant. Anyway you may not feel great when you come out as doctors are really all that sympathetic (in my experience) but in the long run you will have done the right thing :)

*hugs*

Thanks heaps for that. *hug* I'm a little more confidant now. I'm really not fussed if the doctor I see is sympathetic or not. It's not my regular doctor and I just need the referral.

Glad you like my icon. :)

See I cannot feel this, not matter how you try and in the real world, there's no goodbyes.

Stare at the hands, you know you want to ;).

You're welcome :) *hugs*

I wasn't fussed by my doc the second time round but was a little put out the first time I saw them so just wanted to prepare you in case.
Keep us posted and good luck xx

So I finally made the appointment. It's for 3pm tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I'm stuck going on my own and I'm terrified. I have no idea what to say. What do I tell them? what don't I tell them?
