I Must Impose Order!

Ok, I'm gonna suggest a couple of things to combat the little things that bother me in vets. I'm hoping that you'll all agree and not just stare blankly going "erm, just read the posts and reply..."

The thing is, there are so many of us here and my memory is crap. Some people's screennames are similar and so are some people's avatars. So I propose 2 things.

Thing A) Can everyone put their real first name in their sig? This is important for things like the quiz thread where people who know each other well are using real names and people like me get confused.

Thing B) I'd like to suggest we begin a Back Story Thread, in Vets support, where we all put in our history, like a little bio. This would include family stuff, age and job etc, diagnoses, history of cutting or abuse or ed. Just so that when reply to people we can all refer back to this and thus see how the latest post fits into the person's timeline. I know there's the who's who thingy but that's more of a hi, I like cookies, be my fwend kinda schtick.

So, am I the geek of the century? Or just an Asperger's kid obsessed with logic and order? Please everyone agree to this!!

Ok, I can see what you saying. But my sig might look a bit crowded with more info lol. It took me ages to make it look uncluttered. (yeah im sad, but i like my hyerlinks)

Have you tried looking in peoples profiles? If you click the users avatar it brings up there profile. There is a section in here for names, age, job ect.

As for the bios, maybe a good idea in the long run, however, if its difficult to remember peoples names, are you going to remember their life history when replying to a post? and if you wanted to look it up, you might need to flick back 50 or more pages within a few days.

There is however a whos who of vets corner. That is a great place to put a condensed version of your life story in as well as your present situation.

My name already is in my sig, cause that way I can pretend people actually know me well enough to remember my name. I always feel left out when people clearly know each other and are calling each other by their first names, and then I don't know who they're talking about, and people call me just by my sn, but then I really like being on the other side of things and feeling included for a change, so I don't know.

Like Kim said, a lot of people have their name, age, etc. on their profiles... which is how I know that you (TouchVanDerBoom) are really Francesca. And then there's also Kim's approach of signing your name at the end of the post. A thread for additional background info like family stuff, SI history, etc. *should* be unnecessary because people *should* include the relevent background in their posts, but sometimes I think it would be nice if there were some place for that kind of stuff on our profiles or something since so many people don't include all the necessary background for their posts.

Anyway, I totally understand where you're coming from with wanting easier access to some basic info about people who are asking stuff, but I'm not sure how practical it would really be.

i certainly don't think you're being silly Francesca. i know the feeling, like what emily was talking about having people use your first name. when i go into chat and on some forums, there are first names flying at me from all sides, and it can be confusing looking up every individual profile to find out who's talking about whom. also it can sound a bit funny when i get a message along the lines of, "hey what’s happening destroy-!!!-infinity?" i mean, i don't treat my handle like a nick name.

at any rate. take care of those blues...and take care in general.
