I am currently:
Depression and Loss of Appetite

Hi guys! Sorry to post here again so soon I was just looking for some advice really. I'm noticing that a lot of symptoms of my depression are coming back. I'm having negative and self-destructive thoughts, I'm sleeping a lot more and not feeling refreshed when I do sleep (yesterday I slept from 1PM to 6PM and then again from 10 til 8 in the morning and still felt tired straight away) The worrying thing is that I can't bring myself to eat anything because my appetite has completely vanished. The last thing I had to eat was yesterday at nine in the morning and since then I just haven't been hungry at all. I just can't summon up the energy to go and eat something I don't ultimately want but I do know that I need to eat.

Soup. Smoothies. Milk. Mashed potato. All easy to prepare and are easily digestible.
I got loss of appetite when I was very depressed. Plus my medication exacerbated it. It's best to get things back in synch sooner rather than later. How do you feel talking to your doc. about this?

Thanks Katie :) I'll give all of your suggestions a go. I'm not really sure about speaking to my doctor about this because I only went to see her recently so I'm going to try and get my eating back on track and if it doesn't wok then I'll see her ASAP

Just to back up what Stellata said - soup, mashed potato, smoothies, fruit (grapes etc?), anything soft like that that doesn't take too much effort. Little and often is beter than trying to force yourself to eat proper sized meals if you have no appetite - try not to put too much pressure on yourself to eat, but try and keep something with you to snack on, and a bottle of water or something to make sure you're drinking enough.

I know it's difficult when you have no appetite, but it is important to try and eat because not getting a balanced diet will make your mindset more negative too. Do you know any reasons why your depression symptoms are coming back at the moment?

*Cuddles* I don't think I can really add much, but completely agree that it's good to just try eating little things that are easy, smoothies, soup, etc and maybe stuff that you don't have to put too much preparation into like pre-prepared smoothies! Just it might make it a bit easier if you can just pick it up whenever, I know when I was really low even just heating up a tin of soup seemed like too much work! I know it's hard to make yourself eat, and don't push it too much but do keep trying - if you're not eating it's only make you feel worse overall with lack of energy etc.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with all this again; do you know what's brought it on? It's totally up to you if you don't want to go back to the dr just yet and it's good you're trying to sort this out (and I know you can do it!) but I just wanted to say that it doesn't matter if you saw her recently, it's ok if you need help and if it doesn't get better soon please do go back because you don't want to wait too long while things just get worse.. do you have any other support just now?
