OCD?
my doctor said i have ocd, and i know i used to get obsessive over things like calorie counting, rituals, drinking out of certain mugs, doing a certain amount of sit ups a day, but since i've been on fluoxetine (initially for depression) these obsessions have gone, but i have noticed i always make patterns out of words and when im stressed i get repetitive intrusive thoughts. my doctor says its ocd, but im not too sure :/ is it just the fluoxetine keeping it at bay? any help would be appreciated!

What makes you question whether it is OCD? What do you think it is?

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.
Don't try to calm the storm, calm yourself, the storm will pass.
You didn't come this far just to come this far.

Well I'd say that I'm obsessive definitely, but from what I've heard OCD can be pretty debilitating (is that the right word?) but it doesn't really affect me. Like the repetitive intrusive thoughts are horrible, but they don't always happen. Maybe it is, just mild? Saying that Im on fluoxetine so that's probably making it not so bad!

Maybe you could talk to your doctor about it.

There are different types of OCD, like it covers a range of symptoms. I have it but it doesn't interfere with my functioning. I also get the intrusive thoughts and while they can get distressing because they just won't stop, they run in the background so to speak and don't stop me living fully otherwise day to day.
The fluoxetine is probably helping with the other OCD symptoms you had before.
Were you getting the intrusive thoughts before you started fluoxetine?
Being an SSRI means that it's capable of causing symptoms of mania like racing thoughts. I agree that this would all be worth discussing with your doctor too.

Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?

Yeah that's like mine, they're usually benign and i can handle them, cos what i do is if i hear words i have to like split them up into equal sides it's really weird. but sometimes i have LOADS of thoughts and i can't handle it and i can't order them and i get really stressed :(
Wow, thats interesting, well I've always done word patterns, but i never got racing thoughts before! and yeah i can get quite manic at times :L thank you that was a really helpful post! I shall discuss it with my doctor when I see her next! x

Well fluoxetine is defo a treatment for OCD, so maybe it is keeping things at bay. It's good that it's not intruding on your life though! One of the main symptoms of OCD is recurrent intrusive and unwanted thoughts, so it's possible that it's a feature of your OCD that the fluoxetine doesn't reach. But like the others said, it's worth discussing with your doctor or psych
