Advice needed- Seroxat
Hi,
Ok, this is my first post here. I need some advice. My friend has been taking 30mg of Seroxat, but really want to come off it now. She wants to try for a baby, and wants the drug out of her body before she brings a child into the world. She's pretty much gone cold turkey, and has been suffering really badly from withdrawal symptoms. I'm really worried about her, she's not coping with it at all.
Are there a drugs which I could buy online or over the counter that will help her with the symptoms and make this whole process easier?
Thanks

I don't think you should be ordering any drugs online, and I think it would probably be irresponsible for us to direct you to anywhere where you can buy these drugs.
Because;
1. Coming off medication should be done under medical advice. Obviously she's already done it, but if she is suffering this badly she needs to speak to her doctor and you need to encourage her to do this. The doctor will know what to do and will know what to prescribe that will be safe for her. And be able to support her.
2. You don't know what you get online, I simply wouldn't trust it without her going to the doctors first and getting told of an appropriate product; especially if she is trying to get pregnant/is pregnant, you need to know it is safe.
Please, encourage your friend to speak to her doctor about this. Maybe you can offer to go with her if that will help her. But she needs to speak with her doctor about coming off the medication, especially if she is not ready to do so and trying to conceive/pregnant.
I appreciate you want to help her, and that is very sweet, but the most helpful thing you can do is to make sure she speaks to some professional about the medication, the withdrawal and her coping with it. She might need a psychologist to help her cope if you think she is not coping with it.
All the best,
Aimee

Going cold turkey off of a medication is a bad idea, as your friend is already experiencing. It makes the withdrawal worse. Rushing this because she wants a baby isnt going to help because the withdrawal will probably be longer.
She needs to see a doctor. He may advise her to increase the medication for a while before titrating off of it slowly so that she doesnt get such severe withdrawal. Coming off of a medication needs to be done under medical supervision.

Seroxat is one of the worst medications to come off cold turkey. Did you not hear about it in the news / see the Panorama programmes.

She needs to be weaned off it very slowly under care of a doctor. & even then it's unlikely to go smoothly.

Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?

Ironically I watched that programme in a psychiatric hospital I was admitted to as a result of what seroxat did to me.

I was also very ill from the effects of withdrawing when the programme was aired too. Total turmoil. If my mum and step dad weren't looking after me I would have been admitted too.
Since then it's changed to be only licensed for prescription for over 18s. I was 12 when I started taking it and 17 when I stopped.

I was prescribed at 17 by an incompetent psychiatrist who gave it to me on the sole basis that because it worked for my dad, it would work for me.
