Hi guys, a few days ago I was prescribed Citalopram (20mg - one a day) and I just had some queries on it;
1. I'm coming up to the fourth day of taking it, and the "drunken feeling" (I'm sure you guys know what I mean - I can't describe it!) is going, and I'm just wondering if this is normal? I mean, what I read on the internet (I never got the patient leaflet with my prescription) is that this lasts for the first four weeks.. :S so now my "numb" state is becoming permanent and I'm a bit concerned :S
2. What are the "success rates" so to speak of Citalopram ? I've only read bad stuff on the net about it so I'm a bit worried incase it won't work :S
I can't think of any more questions at the mo, I hope you don't mind me posting.
I've been on citalopram. The side effects differ from person to person, I can't help you with the first one sorry! I didn't get any side effects with this.
The success rate for every is different too. Unfortunately it did nothing for me, but when I came off it I did notice that I was much more easily annoyed at everything.
There will be good things about it, I just think people don't post on the internet about that, they're more likely to post complaints. :P It can take up tp 4 to 6 weeks to work so give it time.
I hope it works for you :)
I tried to be perfect but nothing was worth it
I don't believe it makes me real
Can you not ask for a copy of the leaflet at your local pharmacy, I was prescribed them & then did nothing besides make me severly suicidal, but everyone is different try them you may find they work for you, I never experienced side effects so can't help there, maybe you could address your concerns with your GP? maybe this can help it's the same info as you get in the patient information leaflet when you get them just incase you can't get one from your local pharmacy http://www.patient.co.uk/medicine/Citalopram.htm
I was on a 60mg dose of citalopam for close to 2 years, I personally thought it had 0 effect other than a little bit of dizziness when I first started taking it, but other people said they could see a very noticeable improvement while I was on it.
Yeah, everybody reacts differently to meds as said above. But, the med is out there coz it has been proven statistically to works against depression through clinical trials involving probably quite alot of people.
Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I'll look on the sites you gave me and see how the meds go. It's the first time I've been put on an AD so I didn't know what to expect!
A side note - AD's are mainly there to take the edge of so you can engage in therapy (higher sucess rate for combination therapy - meds and talking therapy). They aren't miracle workers. They do take time to get into the body and it can take a while to get the dose right or to decide if a different AD will help.
Try not to worry about it and just see what happens. These meds react differently with each person and what helps one person may not help another.
You made up your mind to torture mine!
If you read a scar like a book, you will relise the story in which you over look
Thankyou Devil Girl. The doc never mentioned therapy but told me to go back in a month anyway :/ I've also noticed (and other people have too) that my anger is getting increasingly worse :S
i was on citalopram for a few months before i stopped going to my gp. it took forever to kick in and tbh i didnt feel all that different. coming off it (i stopped it abruptly 3 weeks ago) i suffered severe sickness, diarrhoea and that drunk feeling. you should just stick with it a few weeks and it might be ok.
Im on 40mg a day at the moment, just went up from 20mg a month ago, not sure if its helping to be honest, made me REALLY tiered when i first started it about 8 months ago.
