Crisis Teams

I saw a crisis team yesterday. I wasn't really sure what they did to be honest. They said that they have 24hr support and that I can contact them whenever, but in reality what can I contact them about? I mean, I am feeling incredibly suicidal but I have been feeling like that all the time for the last few weeks. I obviously can't ring them all the time. I am worried that if I tell them how bad my self-harm has been they will make me go to A&E.
This is probably a really stupid question :/
Sorry.

There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: 'This glass is half full'. And then there are those who say: 'This glass is half empty'.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: 'What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

I know it is scary but the best thing is to be honest with them, that way they can provide the support you need *hugs*

If you feel like you are going to act on your thoughts I suppose, or if you feel worse than usual and need some support.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

They're there whenever you need them. If your having thoughts of hurting yourself or even if your frightened or something. Sometimes they might just talk to you on the phone or they will come out and see you. Try and be honest though. I hid a lot from the crisis team when i first saw them and i regret that now because they probably could have helped me a lot more if they knew everything.

I feel quite overwhelmed with all this support to be honest. And I also don't know if it is enough to stop me. I have a very clear plan and once it's decided it's almost hard to go back on.
The problem is that I don't know what I want.
I don't know how they can help me.

You need to ring them if you feel you are going to do anything potentially harmful. However I know how hard it is to reach out in those extreme times so definately let them know you have a plan.

I don't know if they have set up visits for you as well? Sometimes they arrange to come round every day or every couple of days and see how you are doing so it might be easier to talk to them then in person than over the phone.

They can help you in a similar way we can on here by supporting you and giving you advice. But their help is better in a way because they will also sit with you and meet you face to face.

Do try and work with them. Not trying to scare you but my brother was under the care of the crisis team and ran away to avoid seeing them and ended up almost sectioned :-/

So yeah, ring them when you feel really extreme emotions and need help talking them through.

Yes they are coming to see me today.
I find it difficult to know what to say sometimes though. I struggle to get the words out.

Thanks for the advice, makedamnsure. That makes a lot of sense. They keep saying to me to ring whenever, but it's surprisingly difficult to just pick up the phone and do it. I will try.

I had Crisis team for 6 weeks. I never called them. I never called anyone. to this day ive never rung a support team. Ive only now just begun emailing my own therapist who i have known for over 3 years.

Its incredibly hard. Most times id be ready to call and then talk myself out of it. Making out i was just being daft. I could always talk my way out of it.

Just be honest. Brutally honest.

Thanks Matthew.
I was.
One of them said that maybe suicide IS the right answer for me :/ (but she also said I shouldn't make that decision when I'm not in my right mind).

I am in my bloody right mind!!

My therapist once said, that she agrees that suicide is the right option for some people, that perhaps they have just been through too much to carry on. However, you shouldnt make that descsion while depressed as this clouds the thoughts. she always said, give it your best go at getting better with the least harm. Once your through the depression, if you still want to turn to suicide, then least you know it is for the right reasons.

As for the crisis team, tell them of your plans and they can support you further. They bascially act as a branch on a mountain side. If your sliding down the mountainside, you can grab the branch to hold on for a while longer. But unless you physically grab the branch, its not much use.

Tell them as much as you can, even if you have to write it do and hand it over. They are a team of a lot of different people, from social workers to psychs, to cpns. If you need hospital treatment, tell them, if you are getting worse tell them. If you are having trouble sleeping, then they can give things to help. They can also have you reviewed by things such as psychs pretty quick if they think medication will help. They should also be able to reefer you onto things such as therapy or day hospitals or support groups.

The first time you phone them is horrible. Its scary as hell. But actully once you get through it, sometimes it helps. Just to know you have someone there to discusse things with.
