Anyone here ever taken fluoxetine?

Hey I've been proscribed fluoxetine today, and I was going to start taking it tomorrow morning, but wow am I apprehensive. Has anyone else had any experience with the drug? If so, what was/is it like? What effects does it have on your mind and behavior?

Hiya,

Yep I've had it before, it's normally the first anti depressant prescribed. I stopped taking it for non-depression related reasons but it does work well. It's good for lifting mood and generally making you feel happier. No side effects from what I can remember.

Meds effect people differently. Unfortunately, when I was on fluoxetine it made me even more suicidal, depressed and anxious. I had uncontrollable tremors, night sweats, extreme nausea and crazy nightmares. Only took it for about four weeks due to how badly I reacted to them. Not to scare you or anything, I'm sorry if it has...

best of luck x

yes. unfortunatly, it takes a couple of weeks (im guessing) to settle in & start working,
i think it was the wrong type of med for me, it sent me uncontrolably manic.
but - a lot of people see benefits from this drug, so, best of luck hun! ♥

for me it has been absolutely fine and has helped. In the last few days though its caused me not to be able to stomach food though which has sucked so I've come off them.

This is the second time I've been on fluoxetine. First time round I seem to remember getting a bit light headed with it, but that may have been that I just wasn't eating enough as my ED was really bad at the time. This time I've had no side effects. I struggle to take it because it has e numbers and gelatin in the capsules at times, but on the whole it makes me one hell of a lot better, even if I do end up mood cycling more frequwntly.

Zombified me completely, but then so do all psych meds. Good luck with it.

Also, maybe this would get more replies in the MH board?

I started taking it in September 08, for a while it worked but then it started making me more anxious so I recently came off it. Apart from that I had no side effects. Good luck. x

No side effects and no help with my depression either. However my mum took it for a while and it really helped her.

i think everyone has been on fluoxetine at some point...it's normally that they first perscribe..or if an adult citalopram...anyway i've been on it, didn't do anything mood wise...first 2 weeks it made me feel self destructive, made me very restless (all anti depressants make me incredibly restless, i now refuse to take anti-d's) but fluoxetine made me lose lots of weight...that was the only good thing about it... obviously not good for someone with an ed (which i don't) but i liked the weight loss effect.. i also suggest you take it in the morning cos if it makes you restless and you take it at night you won't be up all night...

It had no effect on me at all. No side effects, and unfortunately no good effects. But it does depend on the person. It takes a few works to work and can make you more sucidal in the first few weeks but that will decrease

Edit: Actually, it made me unable to cry, it did this to two of my friends also. No idea what this was, but this made me self harm even more.

im on it
i find it goes in stages of working and not working
however when its not working my doctors sees it as a time for like a dosage review as the body can sort of get used to it
but when it works i find its fine

I had one week where everything seemed prefect but then my mood dropped again. I hope you find it helpful. Take care.

I was on fluoxetine for over a year, gradually building up the dose. It did work for me, but was getting obsessive about stuff so they put me on something else. Like the others said, it's the first AD they usually give people as it supposed to be the most effective with the least side effects. It only made me feel a bit sick for the first couple of weeks, but that soon calmed down. What I will say though, is mkae sure you take it with plenty of water. I had an issue swallowing it right down for a bit and it go stuck somewhere in my throat (not so that I couldn't breathe). Fluoxetine is known to make people feel more depressed to start off with and then get better. They have no idea why this happens. It will also take a few weeks for it to work, so persevere for a bit. Good luck, I hope it works for you

x

And you're my obsession, I love you to the bones...

maybe it's time to get over it now...

It didn't really work for me, but everyone reacts to different meds in a different way, so I hope you have better luck with it! xxx

I have been on that and it realy helped me, but I had to come off it as it clased with some other medication I take.
It affected me by making me feel likke I had more energy to do things and not feel tired all the time, but it didn't really affect my emotions. Hope it helps you!!
