Trigger
Forgive me for being extremely obtuse, but I'm pretty new to all of this. (As in, I signed up to this board not half an hour ago).
But I've been reading a lot of the stuff on this board. And I keep on coming up against the word "trigger" - whether it is used in an actual post or is used as a warning for a thread...
And I was just wondering what, exactly, it means? I seem to have the general gist of it, but just wanted to make sure.
Thank you!

hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
because a vision softly creeping
left its seeds while I was sleeping
and the vision that was planted in my brain
still remains within the sound of silence

An excellent question. Like you I only have a vague definition. Uhhhm. I think it's a stimuli that causes negative behaviour, such as seeing overly thin people can make anorexic people want to restrict even more or make them think about it. Im probably way off here on the right terms. :D
Btw, welcome!

from what i gather, it means that what has been said may trigger a negative reaction in some people.

What both of you makes total sense and that is kind of what I thought it was.
Thanks to both of you! :D

In a generic sense a trigger is something that causes a reaction.
IE, the trigger of a gun.
On RYL a trigger tends to cause something negative. In the real world, this is not always the case.

Naty - Yes I did join about an hour or so ago. I found the site through a Google search about five horus ago and it took a long time to work up the courage to join. But I have. :)
MeaCulpa - Thank you for your help!
