Triggering (ED) - Who do I contact?

I have been having problems for quite a while with my social worker, and its got to the point, where our professional relationship together is now damaging me.

I realise I have to change social workers for me to be able to move on and recover.

It has also been mentioned by a couple of other proffesionals, although they have failed to tell me how.

My previous social worker was amazing, I as fairly stable with her, well at least not as bad as I am now. My prognosis at the moment is that Ill be dead by my 24th birthday! I want her back, but I doubt that will happen?

So yeah..

any idea what to do?

This depends very much on where you live and who the social worker is employed by. If she is from your cmht, you can contact them or PALS and request that there be a change.

If from the local council, then you would need to contact their social services department and ask to speak to the appropriate person. For details of contacting your local council for this, see: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Hl1/Help...ices/index.htm

I hope that is of some help.

Can you try and find out who the head person or manager is at the CMHT? Even if you just ring reception and say you need to talk to them? They should be able to help.

You could just write a letter addressed to the "Manager of the CMHT". That should get to her/him. Outline the reasons you think it would be beneficial to change care co-ordinator and the problems you've had with your current one. I think her crying is really unhelpful.

Thanks Sarah thats a good idea, I might try and pluck up the courage to do that, although I can never talk about things like this over the phone. My words dont come out, Id end up being silent.

Thats a real good idea I could do that!

and yeah I wouldnt mind if the crying was a one off, because she is human after all and she has a tough job, but its getting a bit much now, and we keep arguing aswell, and I dont argue, so it destroys me inside.

Dont get me wrong shes so lovely..but yeah :( its not going anywhere.

If you can't talk about it on the phone then make an appointment and write it down. A one off cry is ok, but if it is happening frequently it sounds like she needs some time off work. You shouldn't worry about her crying on you.

Yeah hun, you really need to get yourself a new social worker. You deserve to be with somebody who you feel is helping you. Because you truly deserve help.

I'd say writing a letter/note would be your best bet. That way you can think out what you want to say and make sure you get it all out. I don't know if you have a case manager, but that would probably be the person to give the note to. If not, the head of social work, or your social workers supervisor would be the one to go to most likely.

Oh, and you will live past your 24th birthday! Far past it girl. Don't give up. I have soooo much hope for you sweetheart.

Mind could also help you if you need some help with letter writing. I have used Mind before and had great help from them.
Sounds like a new worker is certainly needed.

i'm tired of chasing my dreams.
i'm just gonna ask where they're going,
and hook up with them later.

OK honey.. you seem really nervous and worried but you shouldn't be as this is something you can fix! :) so have faith/hope!

If you need to change your social worker for what ever reason then first off tell/ask your GP.. then go to the Social Work Department and tell them.. or you can look their phone number up and phone them :) They will be nice and understanding.

Can I just say - its so wonderful for you to recognize that you need to chance your SW in order to move on etc! Very brave and smart of you.

May I ask why you don't see your previous Social worker now? is there any chance you can get her back? Why would it not happen?

Phone your old social worker up and ask her if she can come back and help you :)

Let me know how its goes.. Take care xx

Thanks for your reply hunnie and yeah I am really nervous, makes me feel sick just thinking about it, and then I feel guilty :(

My GP wont do anything, she says I need to phone the manager of my CMHT, and tell them. But I cant do this over the phone! I do have the number, I just cant say the words, I can say them on paper, or I can tell someone else and they can say it, but I cant say it out allowed >.< Stupid isnt it.

My previous social worker <3 she was AMAZING! But she is under a different part of the mental health team,so I dont think it would work, or they would agree? I dont know and Im to scared to mention it.

You do not need to phone the cmht. I once just turned up and ended up speaking to the duty manager, as the duty officer wasn't available.

If you turn up and ask if you can speak to the manager, they will not mind. If they are available you can talk there and then. If not, you can make an appointment or sit and wait until they are able to talk with you.

*hugs* You are making very brave steps. I know it is scary, but in my experience, they will understand and be caring about it.
