Triggering (SI/OD) - I have a question, please.

I was wondering, if someone went into an emergency room in Australia and either had self-inflicted wounds (that were NOT life-threatening) or stated that they felt like they were going to self-injure...what would the staff do? If the person was a legal adult would they still tell the person's parents? I'm only asking because sometimes I feel really unsafe and I want to know what my options are if I get too unsafe, particularly since I'm quite impulsive with my self-injury and have been known to OD on a random impulse with no trigger. I'm 19, but I live with my parents and I really REALLY don't want them to know.

They wouldn't tell your parents if you didn;t want them to know as you are legally an adult I think.
PM me if you want to talk.

See I cannot feel this, not matter how you try and in the real world, there's no goodbyes.

Stare at the hands, you know you want to ;).

like becky said they shouldn't let your parents know without your consent, they may want to get them involved as part of a plan to keep you safe but in the end it should be up to you. I dont live with my parents anymore but can really empathise with not wanting them to know.

I'm from the Uk so I dunno how it works in Oz but here they won't hospitalise you unless you are seriously very suicidal or a danger to others. They wouldn't tell your parents if you didn't want them too but they would generally refer you to a crisis team (if you have them in austrailia?) who visit you or ring you every day for a while. They would probably refer you for some kind of counselling as well.

Damn. I'm really scared coz my self-harm is getting more frequent and serious, but my parents react really, really badly to that kind of thing. So I'm pretty sure I need help but it has to be without them knowing. I'm terrified that I'll cut and need medical care and that if I do then they'll tell my parents.

Honey,
Unless your cuts are life threatening, I dont think theyd tell your parents because you're an adult. Unless you are suicidal, I dont think that they would tell.
You know where I am if you want to talk.
