What do you know about Buspirone? (Buspar)

I just took some tonight, and I would like to know how people reacted when they've taken it. What do you know about it?
I've googled it, but the information was a bit confusing.

I've never taken it, but I know that it is as effective as taking benzodiazepines but without being addictive.

However it takes a couple of weeks to build up in your system and start having an effect which is different from the benzos which are fast acting.

As far as I know, it works in a similar way to SSRI antidepressants, hense why it takes a few weeks to build up in your system to a theraputic level as Sarah said.

Ive never been on it, it was thought about in my case for severe anxiety but professionals working with me had differing opinions about it and so decided to up one of the other meds I am already on.

It is an alturnative to benzos because this med isnt addictive so its probably worth trying.

I have been on it. I didn't find it particularly helpful, if at all, but I had been taking benzodiazepines for many years before so I wonder if it would even have stood a chance for me?!

However, I have heard it is really helpful for many people. A couple of my friends have been on it and said it was a great medication for them and helped to control the anxiety they experienced.

Also don't think there are supposed to be many if any side effects so that's a good bonus.

I've never been on any benzodiazepines, so I don't expect speedy calmness. I'm glad that it's not addictive because I believe I do have an addictive personality - not that I've been addicted to anything, but I just know that I have a family history for addiction and so I got to avoid it.
I'm on 20mg cipralex as well, it helps with the depression a bit, but not at all with the anxiety. Hopefully this helps :)

Just wanted to update that it seems to be working some, it's taken some of the edge off. Thanks for the help guys :)
