Mental Health Assessment

Hi,

I am just looking for a bit of advice, I have been refered to the mental health team from my GP, so today i got a call from the mental health team to say that they will be coming to my house next week to ask me some questions and they will see me a few times. Im just wondering what to expect...as i have never had one done before and i am a bit worried. There is two people coming is this normal?

any advice/views would be gratefull.

Thanks

Hi i've moved this here because i thought you'd get more appropriate answers.

I presume the MH team your talking about are some sort of crisis team? If so, when they came to see me they just chatted about how i was and stuff. They didnt really stay long and are just to make sure your ok.

Mine always came in 2's. I think thats for their safety as well as for more support for you.

usually with any first meeting with a counselor it would me more about introductions and they'll just ask you some questions to get to know you a bit first to make you feel more comfortable before they start talking to you about more serious issues.

When i was getting councelling i saw 12 different people and each one on the first appoinment woud let you know a little bit about them and there work history.

there is nothing to be worried about. yeah it is normal to be a bit nervious before any meeting like that. but just remember they are there to help you.

they will probly be a few silent pauses that tend to get a little uncomfortable. they are just to give you time to think and seporate your thoughts as you would probaly have a lot of things whiring around up there.
if you say 'I don't know' quite a lot through one session some cancelours tend to see that as a bariour you putting up. as if your trying to hide something.
that's all i can think of right now. but if you need any advice or have any questions feel free to pm me. not only have i been through it i have also studyed mental health. i hope this helps you out.
just remember there is nothing to be worried about. the more you open up (i know it's hard to) but the more they have an insight as to what is going on and are able to help. Good luck.xoxo

Thanks for your replies, i dont know if its a crisis team or not...all i know is that my new doctor said he refered me to see the cmht to see a cpn. And the woman probely did say who she was on the phone but i dont listen that well on the phone.

Ah thats fine at least they will ask me some normal questions before askign about serious stuff. and least they will tell me about themselves so i might learn who they are.

Thanks for saying that...i will try not to say that i dont know...but sometimes thats the easier answer to the questions so that they dont think im crazy. i know its best to tell them everything but its hard to open up.

I know this may seem a very stupid question but do they come in a normal car...am so scared everyone will see them and they will think i gone mad.

and thanks for the good luck i will need it. x

normal car yes :) that worried me too! it probably wont be the crisis team but the cpn will probably work across that dept too. they're all pretty closely linked from what i remember. my first appt with my cpn was just asking lots of background stuff really. getting to know me.

no problem. a old male psychiatrist once came to see me with a cpn and they came in a blue micra with pink flowers all over it. that was probably odder than a white van! from what i can remember they come in normal clothes too.
