Hey,
It's great that you're going to be getting some specialist input. Exactly who you see might depend on your area but whoever it is will probably spend most of the appointment taking a psychiatric history from you. It's kind of like when you see a Dr about anything - they need to know details of the problem e.g. how long it's been going on, how it started, what kind of symptoms you have, what makes it worse/better, how it affects your life etc. They will probably ask a lot of questions about your mood and maybe get you to fill in some questionnaires. They will also ask more general questions about your health and background including stuff like your home environment. They should ask what you want to happen. After they have all that information the next step will depend on what you have said and what they feel would be best for you e.g. seeing a psychiatrist, medication, therapy. They will proabably write a report to your GP (my advice, ask for a copy so you know exactly what is going on) and take it from there.
Hope that helps
Claire
