Throwing away tools
How do I go about doing this?
All but one was thrown away a year ago and that wasn't too bad - I gave them to a friend who did it for me but I decided I should do the last one myself, I suppose for the symbolic act of throwing it away but I'm too attached to it and I don't know how.
It's been over 16 months since I used it yet I still carry it around, still feel dependent on having it. It's about time I did something about it.
Any suggestions would be welcome...

How about throwing it away someone totally anonymous? I oftten found that sanitary bins in different toilets were a good idea, nobody would know but i still managed to get rid of it?

Ah, it can be tough. Well done, though, on wanting to make this step - and for being free for so long!
You say you still carry it around. How about leaving it at home, in an out-of-the-way place? You'll know where it is, but you won't have access to it all the time - and since you've been free for so long and sound really committed, I think you'll notice you don't need to have it with you all that much. Do you think that could work?
When at some point you feel ready to really let go of it, I suggest telling someone about it - what about your friend who got rid of the rest of your tools? That way you have some support with it, and someone to celebrate with afterwards, which I strongly recommend.
It's a big step, but definitely a good one.

Really they should be incinerated with medical waste, could you take them to your doctor where they'll have a sharps bin ?
And well done as well, that's a really good step :)

I took my sharp to my doctor and he put it in the sharps container on his desk. Maybe you could do that too?

Thank you - I think I'm going to have to go with the idea of putting them away somewhere hidden before completely getting rid of them.
I shall attempt to talk myself into it!

me and a friend went out a buried one of them when i first decided to give it up. before i had always given them to a friend, but like you said, i felt that i needed to get rid of it myself this time. umm, since then i've found other tools. i call my friend (same one as before) and i get him to talk to me and to remind me that it's worth it to keep going and to not give in. with him still on the phone i manage to throw it in the dumpster outside my building (that's the only way i won't go after it later)

Burying sounds like a good idea. i think i might do that. Can be very symbolic. And could be done somewhere where you won't be able to find it again. i don't know.
And 16 months is so so good =] Love you.

Thank you.
Would have to be careful with burying so as not to harm anything (eg squirrels, earthworms etc). Would definitely be good for the symbolism though.
If I ever get round to throwing it out it would be away from home and it would be wrapped in electrical wire tape or something equally as nondegradable to avoid damaging anything.
