I don't like my therapist. I have seen her twice but I just don't like her. I dunno I'm the sort of person who will either love or hate you on first meeting. I feel slightly panicky because I just wanna give up on CBT (which I think is crap anyway) already :( I don't know what to do really..
EDIT: Starting to feel pretty distressed by this now.
Should also add I have been given a chart to fill in for extreme moments of distress so we can work out what triggers me - yet half my problem is my extreme highs. - sigh-

"John, being brave is going where no man has gone before and with Lizzy Stark, that is NOT what you'll be doing!" - Aunt Polly.
“I told him I was going to betray you, and betray Lyra, and he believed me because I was corrupt and full of wickedness; he looked so deep I felt sure he'd see the truth. But I lied too well. I was lying with every nerve and fiber and everything I'd ever done...I wanted him to find no good in me, and he didn't. There is none.”
Yeah my friend told me to see my doctor. I just - I dunno I don't find CBT all that helpful. I mean trust me - I can talk about my problems for hours but ask me to change my thought pattern? I will agree with what she says and then think **** that! < because that's who I am and I can't help it :(

Could you talk to her about this and explain why you don't like her? It could be that CBT isn't suitable. I had a course of CBT and they then moved me to a clinical psychologist.
I don't feel all that confident telling someone I don't like them. I don't think CBT is suitable for me really but my doctor said he would refer me without giving me an option of other treatments.

Can I go back and get referred to a psychiatrist instead of a psychologist?

Thanks for the advice :) will try and tell her next week, otherwise I have booked a docs appointment for 2 weeks time :)

It took me a really long time to see any benefit from CBT techniques, and it's taken a huge amount of conscious effort to even start to notice any change. I was very skeptical, I thought it all sounded so cliche and I felt ridiculous trying to make myself think something I didn't believe. I am now finding it useful, but I don't think that I would have ever stuck with it for long enough had I not spent such a long time IP (where I couldn't really avoid it anymore!)
That said, if you don't feel a connection with your therapist, then it is really hard. The MOST important factor in the effectiveness of therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist, the approach they use is only a secondary factor. Try to talk to her about how you're feeling before you write her off. She's there to support you, she's not going to react negatively to you telling her how you're feeling so you can be totally honest, see what she suggests. If she's not able to try a different approach, or you really don't feel that you will be able to work well with her, then she may be able to set the ball rolling for referrals to something more helpful for you.
CBT is the treatment of choice on the NHS at the moment for lots of reasons. The official line is that it's the most effective treatment for a whole range of mental health problems, but it isn't right for everyone. Part of the reason they're so keen to refer to CBT before trying other services at the moment is that it is relatively low-cost as most patients are seen for a limited number of sessions. You have every right to go back to your GP and ask if they can try another approach. Psychology services very often have stupidly long waiting lists, even for urgent referrals, and whether you're referred to a psychiatrist depends on what sort of problems you're experiencing. But they are there to support you, if you feel there's something you need that you're not getting from them, then tell them so. You have a right to have a say in your own treatment.

I give myself very good advice
But I very seldom follow it
Could explain the trouble that I'm always in...
The problem is I feel my problems run deeper than she thinks they do. I don't think at this time I can solve my issues with CBT. I feel I need to be stabilised first.

Well I guess I mean like that I've got anti depressants - that aren't that good btw. But I feel that I need something to stop me from overshooting. I don't think I need to be talking about the root of my problems. I dunno. I just don't know.

My therapist told me she wanted to get to the root of why I thought what I thought.

Mine wasn't interested in anything to do with the past until right towards the end when it wasn't working. I hope you can write down/talk to her about how it is making you feel and look at ways forward. I had to go through counselling, then CBT before the psychiatrist referred me to a clinical psychologist.
ahh jesus looks like i got a long road ahead of me. CBT i find pretty useless anyway. I had it for OCD too.

Maybe. It could just be that I've had bad therapists haahah.
