I have been on citalipram for a few years now (although about to be changed but not cos it doen't work)
I have found it good. It has helped a little with OCD. Not a huge amount though.
Depression wise it has been good too.

Only side effect I've had is restless legs. Otherwise no other probs with it.

i'm tired of chasing my dreams.
i'm just gonna ask where they're going,
and hook up with them later.

Good luck, I really hope it helps.

I'm on it and haven't found it helpful but obviously everyone's different. On the plus side, I also haven't had any side effects to speak of.

Good luck X

Hey. I've been on it about 6 months now and it has helped my anxiety/ocd traits but my depression has stayed the same.
Everyone has different experiences and you never know it might work for you :)
Good luck and also, sometimes you can get suicidal feelings in the first few weeks of taking these. If you do, call the doctor or tell someone as we don't want you getting hurt :)

Personally for me it's done absolutely nothing, been like taking sugar and water for the past 4 months. Didn't get any side effects going on it other than it slowing my thoughts down, but coming off it I'm getting horrible electric shock headaches from the withdrawal.

That's one thing to remember with citalopram, when you come off it eventually make sure you come off it slowly else you get the horrible side effects.

Hey! Yeah, i was on that med a few yrs bk. At first, it was nausea but that's expected. Lasted about a week but yeah, after that, didn't really get many side effects. According to the psych doc who gave it to me, its one of the good anti-d meds in terms of side effects, it doesn't have many side effects, compared to others. I hope it u dont get much side effects too. Good luck with it!

I was on this the past year for depression, upto the max dose of 60mg, but have had a few periods when I became really unwell so it has recently been changed for another. Also, I took it and still do have a combo of 2 ADs.

I didn't get any side effects from it at all.

Everyone is different, as it is always said. Give it a go and see, if it doesn't work then you may have to try another one.

I was on this for a while a few years ago, it did nothing for me. When I was in hospital they put me on 80mg of it which I'm sure they're not supposed to do, but I had a doctor who liked drugging me! I didn't get any side effects though.

I've been on escitalopram for OCD for about eight months and have gradually built up to 60 mg. Escitalopram is the same drug as citalopram except that it only includes the left-handed isomer of the molecule (es=S, for sinistra), which is thought to be the one that delivers more therapeutic benefits with fewer side effects.

My OCD has gradually improved over this time. I'm not sure of the extent to which this is really due to the drug, but I think it's probably been moderately helpful and I'm in no hurry to stop using it.

I've had no noticeable side effects other than somewhat more frequent and vivid dreams (though this could also just be due to not being sleep-deprived during the period I've been on the drug, in contrast to the pre-administration period).

Hi I'm on this for ocd/anxiety and depression. It does work with my anxiety but does nothing for my moods :(

I was on it briefly. But personally I didn't get on with it. I just got stressed that it was making me gain weight and then I got put on escitalopram. I'm now on nothing until next week because I didn't feel I could admit to my GP what I had done.

I'm on Citalopram and have been since January.

I found the first week I felt sick, lost my appetite, headaches and just generally fatigued. That subsided within a week, although the nausea and remained for about 10-12 days.

They kicked in within about 3 weeks, and after about 8 weeks I found they weren't really helping as much as my dose has been increased.Luckily I didn't experience the same side effects as I did when I first started taking the medication.

I haven't had an side effects from it really. I get a dry mouth and sometimes a little restless sleep but apart from that nothing. I was very concerned about weight gain but apparently there is no guarantee it will make you gain weight. My doctor said if I don't want it to gain weight then I wouldn't and you have to make the effort which has been easy enough :)

Good luck with it and let us know how you get on! x x x

I remember taking this. but eventually refused it. But I remember my psych saying they usually give this to older patients due to lack of side effects and it doesn't interact with many other drugs.

The main side-effect was the drowsyness, but I took advantage of this and took my meds at night to help me sleep.

it never gave me any where near as bad side effects as other pills gave me. But it didn't lift my depression either, even though i was on the highest dose they could give me...

good luck with it though. There are lots of anti-depressants and what helps one person, may not help another.

Yeah it took this for a while last year. i'm taking something else now.
i think it was ok, had quite bad side effects for the first few days [quite bad nausea] but after that it was totally fine, unless i forgot to take it then after a while i'd start to get side effects from that.
But no it was fine. And there's no guarantee you'll get any side effects anyway.
Good luck with it. i really hope it helps you.

I just started on this one 2 wks ago though I think I'm going to try something else. Its made my anxiety much worse. I've been clenching/grinding my teeth and i have this weird nervous energy. Not my cup of tea at all. But everyone's body chemistry is different. There is no telling if it will work for you until you try it.

As you have started this only two weeks ago, I would give it at least another 2 weeks before you decide whether you want to change as Citalopram takes a while to build up to work. Don't write it off just yet :)

That said, you may find that you really don't get on with it :)

I had severe images in the first month of taking Citalopram - I used to see images of slashing my wrists etc that I couldn't stop.
