Laser surgery to remove scars

Sorry if this has been asked before but I had an appointment with a plastic surgeon today regarding laser surgery to remove many old self harm scars. I was told I could have it so long as the funding is granted and he said it might take a few months fo this to come through. I asked him about the effectiveness of it and he said it would improve the scars but whether it improves them enough for me to feel confident wearing short sleeves is unlikely. He also said it would bleach my skin and make it paler so it may cause problems in the sun.

Has anyone else had laser surgery done and how effective was it for you? Also if you have any photos of before and after and wouldn't mind letting me see them, i'd really appreciate it. If you pm me, ill give you my email address.
