Triggering (SI) - Do I tell them...

ok, so after many years of not SH, I have fallen and have begun once again, I am really struggling at work, I am a experienced teacher and have taught at my current school for 7 years now, however this year I seem to be under so much pressure that I seem to be losing control, I am having problems with behaviour management that i have never had before, and my confidence has hit rock bottom, I feel scared in my classroom...
My head of dept, who is very supportive, knows of my problems in the past and realises that I am struggling, but the question is should I tell him and the head and see if there is any additional support? do would that be a bad thing? I don't want them to think that i am a fruit loop, however I also don't want to end up back in the place that I have been in the past, and the warning signs are beginning to stack up.

Sorry, waffling when I should in fact be working, but I just can't seem to face it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Doubt yourself and you doubt everything you see. Judge yourself and you see judges everywhere. But if you listen to the sound of your own voice, you can rise above doubt and judgment. And you can see forever.

Hey.
I may not be experienced in situations such as this, like at all, but I believe that any extra support they can give you would be good, and that you should definitely talk to them to see if there is extra support available.
Hope all goes well :)

hun, I agree you should discuss whether there's extra support available to you. I am a manager in a big organisation, and recently relapsed to SH after 16 years free from it. I spoke to my boss and they arranged for some counselling, but I didn't mention the SH specifically as I know they wouldn't understand and I've managed to hide it successfully so far.

I don't know your situation or how your team would take your SH news, but you clearly need some extra support. I don't think you need to tell them every detail, just that you need some help as you're not coping at the moment.

Let us know how you get on, but make sure you get some help, at times of stress this is what we turn to as its all we know.

Ditto what jonikd said, you don't necessarily have to mention specifics to see what help they can offer you. Good luck

heyyy, yeah i definately agree with what has been said so far. dont go into detail but see what they can offer you. sometimes it is easier just to leave out the SH bit...

maybe you could take a couple of weeks off work and try and sort some things out? good luck xx

^ I agree, there's no need for them to know the details, that you're struggling is enough.

Also, if you need support with behaviour management then let them know and see what support is available for that. With work stuff perhaps it's better to be specific, then it's not just 'I can't cope', but 'I need support with this'

hope it works out...

You can ask to be referred to OH and they can offer short term counselling.

If behaviour management is an issue have a word and ask for support. Maybe the most difficult ones can be moved out for a while or SMT can make sure that if you want a child withdrawn it is done instantly without waiting. You shouldn't feel scared in your own classroom. Teacher support line is great as well and free 24:7. I can give you the number if you need it.
