Triggering (SI) - Swimming, parents/public help!

Okay here's the background info, I became depressed 2 years ago began SI and eventually parents found out so that's not the problem
I've been free of it for over 3 months now and don't plan to give in again
Anywhoooo my mother is beginning weekly swimming due to her medical problem and obviously wants company, so I offered to go with her
I ordered a swimming costume today with shorts.. I'm worried however that my shorts won't cover scars on my legs.
My mum isn't fully aware of the leg scars, she saw them 2 months ago and asked "what are those on your legs?" to which I replied "oh..just bites" she said "they're not bites!!!"
So I'm worried that she'll bring it up again when we go swimming and will think they're more recent than they are..

Also, how can I get into the pool without too many people seeing my scars?
I'm not particularly bothered, but it is a huge step for me...

1st of all congrats on the giving up second i guess following closley behind your mother and walk fast they shouldnt be noticed once you are in the water it should be fine. you are so much braver than I i really miss swimming. sorry i cant be anymore help good luck and im very proud of you :D

Well done for giving up :)

I don't think it will be as noticeable or as bad as you think.
You could wear a towel areound your waist while you walk about abd stay close behind your mum. Once you are in the water I don't think it will be noticeable at all.

Hey,
After a LONG time of refusing to go anywhere near a pool, I've recently taken up swimming as a way of keeping fit, and of trying to quit SI.
I have lots of scars all over my arms and legs, and at first I felt very self conscious. I wear shorts to cover my thighs, but of course my calves and arms are always visible.
A couple of things to remember, most people will not think of SI when they see scars, no-one is likely to comment, most people there will be self conscious, when you're in the water it will be virtually impossible for people to notice.
If you're worried about at the side of the pool, take your towel in with you, wrap it round your middle, or whatever and then just take it off as you get in the pool. If your mum knows anyway, then I'm sure any reaction will be out of concern, maybe just have a quick chat with her before hand. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Lastly, well done on three months free, that's fab, and I hope you have a great time at the pool. Once you've done it once you'll realise it's not that bad at all!

Prehaps before you start to go swimming you should try and mention it to Mum, so you don't have to worry about her seeing. *hugs*
As for other people seeing, that is a HUGE step, and if you do it you're really really brave! prehaps you could run into the pool really quick? :P xo.

Go for it hun :)

I'm sure it wont be too bad at all....from a distance it will be really hard to see scars anyway, so unless someone is actually standing right next to you, i dont think it will be too bad. And in different lighting etc it might not look too bad.

Hope it all goes well for you, and it sounds like a good confidence boost and a chance to get out and have some fun

I have scars on my legs and wear boys swimming shorts to cover them up as they usually come down to the knee.
