ok, so I was in floods of tears at the station today for various reasons which I wont go into.
but anyway the point of this thread is: A really nice lady sat with me and asked if I was ok and gave me tissues. She didn't push me or ask whats wrong, just if I would be ok and did I need anything. Sort of renewed my faith in humanity. In situations like that most people do nothing.
So if you saw someone obviously upset, would you do anything, or just walk past?
I like to think I wouldn't.
But I've never seen anyone upset and crying. And I can't really say how I'll react until the situation arises.
that was a beautiful thing to happen though. Leave it to someone of the older generation to get it right.

i think it would depend on the time of day and 'how' they were upset, if that makes sense. like i wouldn't go and ask someone if they were okay etc if they were just sobbing cos they'd had too much to drink.
a similar thing happened to me when i had to rush out of work and cried a lot on a bench in the street. one person asked if i was okay and another asked if i wanted to talk. i was hysterical though. impossible to ignore really, lol.
Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?
Its a toughie.. I don't really like anyone talking to me when I'm upset.. I just want to be alone, so I doubt that I would. It would largely depend on my own mood and the age/sex of the person in question.
Once I saw a girl who had just had an arguement with her bf outside a shopping centre where I was waiting to get my bus and he'd walked off,she was in such a state i went over to her and asked if she was alright and offered her a cig lol! After she'd calmed down/had a cig she was fine and I went off on my bus.
I dont know if I would do it in every situation, but if theyre very upset and everyone around them is ignoring them I feel like I have to say something/do something. I like older generation people, when my bf and i broke up AND i was quitting uni this old couple saw me crying on the train and they gave me water and werthers originals lol.xx
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.

That's one of the things that would make me hesitate to talk to someone who's upset. Because I know I'd want to be left alone when I'm upset. My interference might just make things worse.

Yeah i get that. I usually like being left alone too. But just to hand someone a tissue or a glass of water is different to trying to talk to them.
Everyone else always pretends nothing is happening which is worse really I think when it is obvious that everything is not ok.
I like to think I would stop and help someone, I hope I would because I know how much it meant to me. But I'm not sure I would in reality because I'm really shy.

I'd cry every day, several times a day, if someone gave me cigarettes. Offtopic, sorry.
When I cry I hate people asking me what's wrong. So when I see someone crying,I leave him alone.
You can buy me with a coffee,I'm so cheap. Got bitten fingernails&a head full of past;Got a broken heart&your name on my cast.
&&I wanted her to tell me that she will never wake me.

I got lost of the underground once, there was loads of engineering works and I somehow ended up at Bank with no idea how to get home, and I couldn't find any staff, probably cause it was really late, I went through the gate to use the payphone then realised I had no money. I was so scared i just sat on the floor and cried and a really really nice woman helped me by telling me how to get home and even bought me a train ticket. I don't know what i would have done had she not helped me.
Back to the question I think it would depend on the situation, how upset the person was and their age and gender, but i'm not sure really.
We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken
I've had a similar experience to this.
I was at the bus stop and I was just drained and sleeping on my bag, I sat up and a lad who was sat next to me asked me if I was okay, and I said I was and asked him if he was and he just turned round and went "Look, I know I'm just a stranger, but I know something is wrong... You look close to tears lass, come on you can speak to me"
And I just said I was alright and thanked him, but when I went for the bus he followed me with a pen and some paper and asked me for an email address or if he could give his to me, he said he was worried about me. I regected which to this day I still feel bad about, because he was my age too, and it is incredibly rare to find such nice people nowadays who are also young!
I would like to think I would speak to somebody who was upset, if they were alone and stuff, but I'm also very shy, so it would take a lot, but that lady sounds absolutly lovely, I'd love to be able to do that for somebody, because it obviously cheered you up. =]

I been helped a couple of times by people ,and I wasnt even crying.Once I was at the airport and I was moving back home and I couldnt manage all the stuff.A really mannerly man helped carry my huge rucksack all the way to my desk.I couldnt have managed without him.Plus I got lost one night when the tube broke down and a guy helped me find my buses.
I have to say they were English though. In Ireland I think youd be ignored.
I like to think I'd help someone but I've never seen anyone in a situation like that really.
The other day I saw a lost little girl looking for her mum in H+M... my cousin was in a rush to get out the shop but I stopped and stood there for 30 seconds to make sure her mum found her. I didn't approach her or anything as she'd only been separated from her mum for about a minute and it was over and done with pretty quickly but I stayed to make sure she was ok.
Many years ago my ex and i were looking around at a local church.... Just poking about because we found churches interesting. Anyway, there was a girl sitting in the church and she was crying. Like, REALLY crying. I wanted to stop and ask her if she was ok but my ex said it was none of our business and pulled me away. To this day i still think about it. I wished i had insisted because she was very young and obviously something was very wrong. I hope someone else stopped to talk to her....
I'd like to think that if I saw somebody crying that I would stop and at least offer a tissue or something. I don't think I've ever really been in that situation though.
I have had some people be really quite nice to me before, like when I was on my Work Experience, I was miserable and hated it but I as I walked through town, a man working on a building said something along the lines of "cheer up, it's nearly the weekend!" and smiled at me. It made me laugh and really cheered me up for the rest of the day :)
You can't lose hope when it's hopeless.
You gotta hope more,
then put your fingers in your ears and go,
"Blah blah blah blah!"
Once, I was having a really bad day, last summer, despite being at an RYL meet & was on my way home with a suitcase (don't ask!!) when I tripped getting up onto the bus (I am THAT cool!) when an old man went to get up with his stick to help me, but that fell over, and an old woman came over. She wouldn't leave me alone after that, gave me a tissue (I was in floods of tears), an antiseptic wipe (I think because of healing cut/scars?) and kept asking if I was alright. Then when I got off the bus, you could tell the bus driver was still feeling guilty about it for some reason & wouldn't let me go til he was convinced I was okay.
Also on an occasion of fainting in public, two people came over to help me and my sister as they saw it happen. Although I don't know much of what they did since I was out for most of it.
About 9 years ago this summer, I had an accident & knocked myself out. Everyone was really rather helpful. They called an ambulance, the shop took in my scooter so it didn't have to be dragged to hospital etc & they wanted to call my house, but course I couldn't remember my home number, but knew my address (was 5 minutes away) and some kid ride his bike & banged my door til my dad answered!! Bless =)
Bless them :)
Although when I sprained my ankle & went flying. in a train station, everyone just rushed off to get the train (that I also was rushing for).
Aww, it's nice she helped.
I'm not sure, by offering to help if they're not a nice person you're potentially getting yourself in a bad/situation you don't want to be in.
Also, I wouldn't want to annoy them lol
There will always be a happy ending. If its not happy then its not yet the end.
