Lithium...

I've been on lamictal for almost a year, tried seroquel and abilify (neither of which worked out at all) and I'm on trazodone when I can't sleep. My doctor just added lithium to the lamictal and I'm terrified... She said she's keeping me at a fairly low dose, but I'm still really nervous... I hear it can be really effective, but it can also have awful side effects... What are some of your experiences with it?

i found it was really helpful. i did develop hypothyroidism with it, which i then had to take tablets for, but it went away once i stopped the lithium. as long as you take it when you should and have blood tests when you should, you'll be fine!

What dose are you on? I have been on it for years. Main side effects are weight gain- due to fluid retention, dry mouth and hypothyrodism.

Lithium didn't work for me. It was mostly because I've kidney problems already and it just made them worse.

I hope you find meds that work for you!
xx

I was on it for about a year, can't remember whether it was effective or not. All I remember are the blood tests (every 3 weeks if I remember correctly) and that I retained water like crazy. Best of luck on it though - it's effective for a lot of people, so give it a go for a bit. *hugs*

Been on it for several years now and it has helped so very much.
No side effects whatsoever.
Hope it works for you.

Oh wow, thank you for all the replies! My doctor said she's starting me relatively low at 600 mgs, and I haven't had any side effects yet, other than an upset stomach. Thanks again, I feel a little less nervous now

it didn't work for me and gave me acne, but other than that not much. it gave me no withdrawal symptoms that i noticed when i went off of it. i'd see how it works and keep your dr updated with any changes.
