When a thread's deleted...

Okay, at the moment, when a thread is deleted you can clearly see where the thread was, who the OP was, and there is a space to specify why the thread's been deleted.
In fact, if I remember correctly, it does [or at least did] the same thing when a thread is moved.
Now, I can see how this is helpful - often threads disappear and people wonder why, or whatever.
However, when the whole site moves over here, and you do get more threads being deleted for whatever reason, isn't it going to be an unnecessary waste of space?
Trying not to be funny here or anything either, but it's not the most pleasing thing on the eyes! Not in the fact that it's bold, or in your face, but it just looks... a tad wrong.
Ah, anyway. Thanks for reading. I'll shurrup. :]

Personally, I really, really dislike the deleted post thing. I just think it looks very messy, that's one thing I've always liked about RYL 2 vs. most other forums.

I can see how it might be handy, but it can look messy. Would be good if you could switch it on or off in the control pannel. That way if you where looking for a moved post or something you could just flick itback on.

Hang on hang on - normal members should not be able to see deletion notices, only Mods...

The forum / usergroup permissions matrix is an absolute nightmare. With a total of 65+ forums, and nearly the same usergroups, and custom permissions available for every combination, makes thousands of possible options and literally hundreds of things to check and get right. It is quite possible that there are some errors still remaining, i wish someone had told me sooner!

Looking at the permissions for say, general chat - everything looks like none of you can see deletion notices in that forum. The main permissions for both registered members and supporters, as you are for example Jo are set to not show these deletion notices - so I am a little puzzled

This is something that needs sorting - it must be something to do with you guys being staff, as I can't see how registered members could be seeing them in any way - which is how it should be. Indeed none of you, only the Mods as I said should be able to, for obvious reasons.

Can those who can see deleted noticed PLEASE post which forums they see them in. I am now going to make a deleted post in every forum, so if you see one please let me know so I can go through and check permissions.

As for thread moves. It is a mod option at the time of moving whether or not to show a 'ghost' redirect (for example if a well known thread is moved which could confuse people who can't then find it) but for most thread moves it won't be set to show.

Thanks guys - keep me posted

Well you first aiders requested to be Mods in that forum - so that is all working fine. Sorry if they are messy, but it isn't your job to have RYL all pretty! :P

I'm pretty sure you guys can permenently delete those threads anyway can't you?

How about everyone else? Anyone who can't see any?

I deleted a thread in R/V and I can't see it.. so that's good.

But Harley, I can see a thread deleted in the Supporter boards here.

Also. With deleted replies, are we supposed to see those (notifications) too?

Um. Harley on this subject, I have another question. Can the mods see the threads/replies we have deleted?

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

Yes, Mods can see deleted content. On v2 ALL content was retained, here some is physically deleted, some is archived and deleted. pretty much all the systems and protocols for dealing with threads, behaviour and actions are all new, and this is part of it.

Specifically, in general forums we do not want the new ability to delete posts and threads to be misused. Very easily could a member say something on a post, then delete it before a Mod could see and punish them for it. At the same time the ability to clean up posts and delete them will mean less arguments break out because people should 'bite their tongue after the event'

Mods can't just allow all the members to self mod themselves though, deleting records of what they have done as they go, which is why it works on this twin level system.

I will finish of sorting these later today, please let me know if you can see ANY in any of the public forums - as you really shouldnt be able to

P.s AD you now can delete in First Aid

Harley, We have always been able to delete in v2 but in v3 up until yesterday or so if you deleted a thread/post a reminder was left.

It seem's to work like v2 now as I deleted a post prior to my last one and it has vanished!

Can people make threads in forums they have access to, like supporters and members schemes, I will then delete them and you can tell me if you see them.

Mark each thread with a title To Be Deleted - Test

Thanks :)

Harley - How do we know if this has been done?

I'll go and do it now but people may hate me if it's been done a trillion times before so I apologies in advance!!

et voila I have posted in the common room, the members schemes giant sofa bed, the advise section discussion and ALL the supporter's board.

I havent posted in any of the general boards because I think the deleting aspect has been sorted in them and I would MAJORLY annoy everyone!!

There is also the one single support board that the team leaders have access too.... does that one have one in? You'll need to poke a team leader about it?
