Panic Attacks

Theyre so scary, and I can never breath properly. Theyre embarrasing in a public situation too!

How do you deal with them?
If you feel a panic attack coming on, how do you prevent it?
What do you do to help/stop your attacks?

Im sooo sick of them and theyre becoming more and more frequent with the onset of exams.. :(

Any advice at all would be highly appreciated.

I can usually recognise a panic attack first by my thoughts, they kind of race and I start to feel scared. At this point I try to do deep breathing exercises and focus my mind only on one thing, usually by looking around me and finding a poster to read over and over so I stop thinking about how anxious I feel.

Also I find standing up helps as I get restless. I walk around in circles but it seems to help better than sitting down.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

If I'm having one, I try to breathe properly & focus on something, & try to wait it out.

Regarding preventing it, I either don't prevent it & try to deal with it, or I prevent it by distracting myself, or breathing properly, or ranting about things & seeing if it helps calm me down any, or talking to someone & try to have them try to calm me down.

panic attacks can be really scary, Start by really looking, in detail, at your panic attacks. When did they happen? Where were you? What were you thinking? See if you can identify particular thoughts that trigger a panic reaction.

Learn a relaxation technique (I have tried this)
If you habitually clench your jaw, and your shoulders are up around your ears, this will generate further tension. Relaxation techniques focus on easing muscle tension and slowing down your breathing. It helps your mind to relax.

I am not sure if this will help
Take care
