Need some info on two things

A lady called me this morning. She's my therapist. I've never had one before and she book my first appointment today.
What happens on the first one?

Also - I'm looking for information about borderline personality disorder.

Short post I know, sorry. I can't think very well today.

Sorry, not sure on the individual therapy side as I haven't been allowed it when referred in the past (I am part of a Therapeutic Community though).

What kind of information are you looking for with regards to borderline pd? There's a thread on this board re bpd, so you might get some more answers if you post your questions re bpd there.

My first therpay session was mostly finding out about my life history
About my family, my siblings, how i found school, any depression in the family etc so she could build up a general picture of me and my life...it was quite informal and easy.. nothing to worry about xx

Basically, the therapist gets to know you, what you struggle with, what you are good at, your home life, your school life, how you feel, about yourself & about your life, just basically what's going on for you, both good & bad.

BPD -
What information are you looking for about it?

In a world where you can be anything, be yourself.

Thanks, guys.

It sounds stupid, really. But from what I've read about it, I think I have it but that scares me a lot.

These sites I think are helpful;
http://www.borderlineuk.co.uk/
http://www.mind.org.uk/help/diagnose...ality_disorder

I would strongly reccomend this book; http://www.bpddemystified.com/index.asp?id=24

The first appointment for any talking therapy would involve an assessment of your needs, and getting to know each other, how the therapist works and what you want from them. Its the opertunity to ask questions and consider everything before committing in any way.

Hope the sites help. The book has been the best thing I ever come accross re BPD, it has so much information, presented in a structured way that you can dip in and out of the chapters (I believe the site has some exerts to check out before you buy).

To edit; self diagnosing isnt helpful for so many reasons, if you are concerned, as you are, speak to your GP or psychiatrist, if you have one.

Are you under a psych team? Everyone here will say the same - that you shouldn't diagnose yourself, leave it to the professionals as self-diagnoses are often incorrect and it can be detrimental researching diagnoses for yourself.

Don't be scared. Sometimes you can get too much information about things. It's easy to believe that you have this that and the other illness and half the time all you're doing is trying convince yourself that you have whatever you're reading about because you want an explanation for how you have been feeling etc.
I suggest that you stop reading about it and leave deciding what is wrong to the professionals who are trying to help you :)
xx

Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?
