I'm not entirely sure hun but my guess would be that they can offer support more frequently but for a certain amount of time. Perhaps ask what exactly they mean next time you see them?
Take care

well i said to her i was still confused about it. i mean shes part of student support at uni n is a psychiatrist, and the person that refered me to her said that shes be able to see me until the end of my course, which i would have thought was long term. she said she wasnt specialised in my problems-whatever that means, coz noone ever has been, but to be there isnt much difference between 'support' and 'therpay' because noone iv seen has ever done anything but tlk/listen, theyv never helped me change anything. so i dont kno.

I would guess that they can listen to you, but won't be able to look at ways of helping you in changing your behaviour.
I see a clinical psychologist and what they do is definitely different to counselling.
