Crash?

Did RYL just crash for you?

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

RYL was briefly unavailable a for a few minutes just now whilst I performed some further work to resolve the database errors we have been seeing.

The site will remain up for the rest of the night now and I'll be keeping a close eye on things.

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.

Further work on my part I'm afraid - sorry for the disruption everyone but I think we are making headway.

Nothing cool I'm afraid - just fixes for some intermittent database issues we've been experiencing over the past few days.

v4 next year though ;)

It's only going down due to configuration changes I am making to resolve the issues we've been experiencing. Some of these require server restarts unfortunately before they become effective.

RYL isn't likely to go anywhere don't worry, despite the DB issues, the downtime is therefore 'planned' if that makes sense.

This is likely caused by internet conditions, nothing wrong here at this end at all.

Sorry I can't do anything to improve that on this occasion.

Looking at our logs, it looks like a Java security patch was automatically applied earlier on this evening and this would explain one of the disconnects you were seeing since the chat server will have been automatically restarted.

Other than that we have no outages whatsoever so I can only think this was an internet peering problem or an issue with an upstream IP transit provider somewhere.

Sorry for the difficulties, but it's nothing to worry about. For future reference, you can check the Echo Internet systems availability using this link:

http://www.pingdom.com/reports/6b8e81i3z3mq

The above will tell you instantly if there is an issue with our systems. You'll see from the historical reports that we have maintained industry leading uptimes so problems are extremely rare.

Thank you, that's great to hear :)

(people often only talk about the bad things and not the good!)
