Moderators and criticism
Hi Guys,
We've noticed recently that a few people have been criticising moderators publically or not respecting their decisions. As we moderators are human beings, there will always be differences in opinions over what actions should be taken and all of us at one point will make a mistake or misjudge a situation. Obviously we want everyone satisfied with the actions of moderators as we work really hard to keep this community a safe and a supportive atmosphere. So if you disagree with a moderators decision or are concerned about their behaviour you may either discuss it with the moderator via PM/Whisper or can contact the heads of their teams (typsee and Aimee in Wonderland for forums and Sooty and Heidi Tiger for chat). This way you can be sure that your feedback is listened to and taken into an account.
However what really isn't ok is publically criticising a moderator/all moderators or disrespecting their decisions. Public humiliation really isn't cool! When we are criticised in public it can make it really hard to do our job, moderating requires prompt and decisive action and a knock in confidence can cause anxiety about decision-making or make you feel hesitant about telling people how they behave in case they all don't listen to yo u as they don't respect you.
In order to restore peace and calm to a heated situation, a mod will sometimes need to step in and take immediate action by saying something publically (or give a public warning) about a member's behaviour. But we do actually prefer to keep things private and confidential when any detailed criticisms, penalties, or reprimands of an RYL member are required.
We all know that we mods are not perfect, so there will be occasions where we may make mistakes or may make a poor decision every now and then. But all we ask, is that you give us the same sort of respect and courtesy that we do our best to give to you .... so if you have an issue with a mod's decision or behaviour, that you approach that mod discretely and privately about it ... or privately contact the Heads or Deputies of the mod team if the issue is still not resolved.
Please take this into consideration as having a good relationship between moderators and the rest of the community is so important for this site to provide you with the best support and advice possible.

Thanks Heidi!i know often you mods have a very tough job and i probably certainly dont say it often enough but i for one am certainly so glad you are all there and i know how hard you all work to make RYL work too.No your not perfect - nobody is!But like us you try your hardest and that the main thing. And your giving time freely to do what i would see as a very challenging thing. At the least you deserve respect so thank you!xx

i do not always manage to be around but i wish you all the very best - love and luck to you all!

No. But I totally understand and just remember, you'll always have those that flame you, but keep your heads up. Chances are they're just behaving childishly over something petty. :)

I think it's private messaging someone in chat.

Control Freak - In chat to talk to somebody privately you whisper to them so only you and the other person can see it instead of the whole room :)
This is a good post. I think all you mods do a lovely job & I thank you for it *hugs to mods*

No longer using this as main account. Only meets.
|
ok when i had my other name not saying what it was due to parents looking over this site... I'm generally nice to mods but I found 1 in particular sometimes 2 were actually really rude themselves. I did nothing at all but posted a support thread that of course I needed support and out of the blue I get a jumped up response that was actually really rude and nasty and happened on one or more occaisions.
I'm not gonna name her but heidi you made it sound like were just nasty to them but sometimes its the other way round.
I'm not going into another issue with mods as i am actually still mad about that but its over with now but yeh I thought i'd say my piece about it not just being us rude to them.
|

I am now not going to use this account as my main one from now on.
If you want my new account PM me. xxx

To be honest, everybody is mean at some point or other and I think it probably did happen because mods are only human. They can't be expected to be angels and are allowed mistakes like the rest of us.
It's better to be realistic than pretend the sun shines out their..

I see mods who do wonderful jobs, and some who don't. The ones who are not good at their jobs make the whole team look bad and cause them to lose respect as a whole, sadly.

Mods are human, and fully capable of being mean. Sometimes they are called mean for doing their jobs properly. I haven't seen one being publicly "mean" in a long time though.
