Triggering (SI) - A reason not to?

In the past I thought I could completely hide my SI but I wasn't careful enough. Eventually my parents found out and then I had to go see a doctor once every couple of months for a checkup. I stopped then just because I didn't want to hurt my parents.

Now I have moved out and gone to uni. I never have to see a doctor so they have no way of finding out. I've also always adamantly refused to show them and after a while they gave up trying. I've made my mother agree to stop asking me about it because I stopped it and it was bothering me that she kept asking. I have pretty much already permanently ruined my arms so the fear out having scars isn't an issue either. Also, my entire wardrobe consists of long-sleeved clothing so nobody else can find out.

Basically I feel like I don't have a good reason not to do it anymore. Anyone have some good reasons, other than injury/infection, I'm not worried about those.

Reasons to stop, well the best reason I can think of is having the ability to stop. I would say that the younger you are when you take control of your SH the less likely you are to continue doing it through your life. Once it truly becomes ingrained with you and your personality then it seems almost impossible. In my case I wish it had been dealt with years ago, but it wasn't, and that is why I am on RYL now.

A good reason is not having to tell your kids why their mommy/daddy has scars everywhere and not having your kids teachers look at you funny. Not having to deal with more questions, judgments, having to clean up blood,be scared that everyone is gonna know that you cut last night, not having to lie to the people you work for why they have never seen you in a a reg t-shirt,if you live somewhere hot its gonna suck in the summer time and people are gonna be suspicious, well im all out of reasons, hope they were food for thought.

Having to explain to your kids/partner in years to come. Self-harm closes you off from people so you can never expect to be incredibly close to your friends while you do it. It stops you swimming, you are constantly on your guard about getting caught. Self-harm spirals, soon cutting won't be enough and you will increase severity and methods and you will get found out. It might be difficult to concentrate on uni work.

That is all. Take care xx
