I am currently:

antidepressants and bipolar disorder
has anyone with bipolar had good experiences with antidepressants?
im just wondering because my dr wants to have another shot at putting me on them. i have rapid cycling bipolar 1 and have been on fluoxetine and citalopram, both of those times i was also on sodium valproate (mood stabiliser)
now im on an antipsychotic as well (abilify) so maybe it will be okay. however in the past all theyv done is send me manic or mixed so i was wondering what other people's experiences were?
i know that no one here can advice me in a medical sense, and i have a very open relationship with my dr so she knows my concerns. just wondering how others have found them?

When I was on certain antidepressants, they sent me into rapid cycling.
I'm taking abilify and it helps a lot.

antidepressants didn't help my bipolar much (and i've been on several different ones), but lithium and zyprexa does help, so thats what i'm on. I have bipolar II if that helps.

SSRI's have always made me become manic.
The only anti-depressant I have found helpful is Mirtazapine (Zispin)
I was told to watch out for manic symptoms when I started it and to revert to taking it every other day if I noticed any.

I used to be on cipram (antidepressants) with my bipolar meds and like it made my manic sometimes a bit more manic but overall made my lows more livable to live with! So i guess they worked for me

I think you should give it a shot and see what happens, sweetie. There's no harm in trying. :)
