Tons of energy on meds!??

I just started taking the medication Cipralex (similar to Lexapro) 2 days ago. I've never been on medication before and have no idea whats normal.

I have tons of energy though, have trouble sleeping (probably because I take it at night), I usually nap during the days and have no need or desire to now, and in general am very restless. I am practically bouncing off the walls at times throughout the day but not the whole day. I am having some difficulty concentrating as well.

Is this a side effect of the medication? Is it possible after only 2 days? I noticed this yesterday after my first dose the night before.

Do I need to be concerned? Or is this normal to some extent? I don't mind it at all (in fact I love it) and feel I am still thinking clearly and all that. I just can't sit still!

It is possible that this is a side effect of the medication - and it is one you should discuss with the prescriber. Sometimes, such side effects ease after a short while, but with what you are describing there is a risk that it may escalate into a form of mania. It may be that the Dr will change the dose or the medicine to one that may suit you better.

Do you have someone with you who can ensure you keep safe until you can speak with your Dr/medical team?

Yeah I live with my husband (that makes me sound old! I'm only 23 haha) who I have informed to keep an eye on me incase I start to get crazy and don't notice.

I've never had a manic episode. I like this side effect but a little less of it would be nice. I just did some reading and it does sound like theres a possibility it will wear off in a week or so.

Thanks. I will definitely keep a close watch on it and call my doctor on monday (they're closed on the weekend).

Good to know you have someone around that can help look after you.

Keep us posted on how you get on with the Drs. Hopefully it will ease of given time.

*hugs*

I agree with roiben, you need to monitor this closely and also get your husband to help as it could turn into full blown mania. I would suggest going back to your doctor also to mention this side effect.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Sounds fun.
Just kidding, I agree with the others and that it could cause mania, especially as it's an SSRI. See your psych or doctor.
I have to avoid SSRI's because I have bipolar because of the capacity of them to make me manic.

Thanks for the replies.

I am much more calm today. I haven't had that kind of energy in years...it was kinda nice actually. Apparently my husband found it somewhat annoying though haha.
