Triggering (Suicide) - Is this normal?

Hello everybody.

Something really weird happened to me today and thinking back it was really quite scary. Not sure if this is the right place to post it, but I'll give it a go.

I'm having a *really* bad day today, feel so low that if I had the energy I could literally end it all. I have these fairly often to be honest. However, I had a really weird thing happen today. I was laying on the sofa, TV was on but I wasn't paying that close attention to it, when slowly, it my hearing went all muffled and it was like...being wrapped up tight in bubble wrap. My vision went all blurry around the edges and I literally couldn't move.

I think I was like this for about 20 minutes or so when it just...went away.

Sorry if none of this even makes sense...I just feel like I'm really losing it.

It sounds a bit like dissociation. It can happen to people when they're feeling stressed and it's a bit like zoning out. Something the mind does to protect itself. In some ways, it's "normal"; everyone experiences it to some degree. But if it's the result of feeling very low and upset then it's worth trying to find ways to feel less distressed. xxx

Thank you. Yeah I was/am feeling very, very low so I assume that's why it happened. Well I've just been reffered to a psych so I'll mention this then, too. Until then I need to find something. I still feel like I'm losing it though. *hugs* thanks for your help. xxx

I get this, it is dissociation and it a defence mechanism. The mind is overwhelmed so it starts to shut things down to focus on less so that it can keep going with the important stuff (like breathing).

I zone out and it can take ages for anyone to get through to me.

If you feel yourself reaching this point, it is worth getting somewhere safe or having someone to hand who can look after you (my bf sometimes just holds me for a while). But, it is also worth discussing with a therapist to see if there is a specific trigger for it happening.
