my diagnoses(sp?)... i know what it is, but i have no idea what it means..

ok so the doctor told me today that im PTSD, bi polar, and adhd. I understand adhd, sorta, but i dont get how im supposed to be bi polar , or for that matter what it really is, nor what ptsd really it i mean its like post traumatic stress disorder, and ive read about it but i dont really understand it.. can anyone explain these in english?

Bipolar means that you swing between extreme lows [depression] and extreme highs [mania]. You might be on medication called mood stabilisers in addition to an anti-depressant, to help balance these moods out.

PTSD means that you have suffered some trauma/s in your life, where you were in some kind of danger and felt helpless. As a consequence you suffer anxiety often now, and are constantly 'on alert' fearing that the trauma might happen again. You feel like it is still happening at times, with what are called flashbacks, or through nightmares, and this probably distresses you. At the same time you might desperately try to avoid anything in connection with the trauma, like places or people.
