I can't risk seeing psychiatrists/taking medication anymore
Sorry, I'm in a state, and I don't know what to do.
I just found out today that for a year and a half I've been on psychiatric medications that are known to intereact and cause heart problems. The doctors weren't even going to tell me, I just saw something pop up on the computer when they were writing me my prescription (new gp so needed to get prescription written out again after many letters from various psychiatrists) and I leaned over and it was in red, and I've been put on this medication over a year and a half ago and they were well aware that my Dad died of a heart attack two years ago.
Furthermore since I was put on this medication every time I have been in a&e they have noticed irregular heart rhythms and other heart symptoms, so it's not like I'm imagining that it has affected me. There's heart conditions on both sides of my family and my DAd ****ing died of a heart attack and they've put me at more risk.
I posted last week about how I can't cope with the sedative side of my medication, and I took your advice and I wrote a formal letter to my psychiatrist and now I find this out. I also found out about how to get an advocate but decided to wait until I got the reply from my gp.
Every psychiatrist I have ever seen has caused more damage. I've no intention in seeing another ever again, and I'm going to wean myself off my medication. I know people say this a lot, and I'm not going to say I'm definitely sure i'm going to wean myself off it, that's why I'm writing this post, because I'm so upset and I don't know what to do but that medication is poison and I don't want to take any of it ever again.
Hey, that must be really difficult what you've been through, what with the medication difficulties and then finding out that it causes heart problems ontop of your dad dying from a heart attack. I'm not surprised you want to come off it. What I would say though, is that depite you reluctance to take it, I would come of it in a supervised way, considering you've been taking it for quite some time. This is only for your benfit. I'm not sure if I'm right in thinking that your at university but you wouldn't want anything interupting your studies. I can understand though, from previous posts too, why you wouldn't want to be taken this medication. I just think maybe you should have some input from a professional but be forcefull with your opinion in that you want to stop it, if thats what you really want. Good luck with what ever you choose to do. Ree
sticks and stones may break your bones but words can tear your heart out.
I can understand why you are upset, but many psych meds cause this problem. they wont cause you to have a heart attack or anything. A heart attack is due to a blockage in the artery which basically cuts off the oxygen supply.
Most pysch meds can cause cardiac arrythmias, most of which are not harmful. They may cause your heart to beat to fast or too slow, or miss beats etc. When you were in the A& E did you have a 12lead ECG? If you did and this was fine then you have nothing to worry about. They can tell a whole lot about the heart by looking at a 12lead ECG.
You should talk to your dr tho. The prob with medication is that they often way the risks against the benefits. So for instance if you were acutely suicidal your more likely to die from that than a heart disturbance which has no long lasting effects. I hope this doesnt come across the wrong way.
*cuddles* I would suggest talking about this with your Psych and/or gp, especially since it is the effect on the heart that you are concerned about.
Firstly, to explain how much this has upset and concerned you. Secondly, to discuss possibly coming of the medication - it may be that you will need an alternative medicine, it may be that they can advise the safest way to come of of them without any ill effects (to your heart, as well as general withdrawal). However, as others have said, there are side-effects of all meds - perhaps you need to stress how important it is that you are told these things, as not everyone wants to know.
If the Human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple that we wouldn't.
Im not saying you should come off the meds or anything as I think you should discusse this with your doctor first. But perhaps if it is a drug interaction that can cause problems maybe you could just come off one drug not both? That way you would still have the cover of one of the drugs to help manage your symptoms.
Nothing new to add, just wanted to repeat, pls don't suddenly stop them (or even gradually reduce them) without talking to someone first.
You have every right to be mad! You should have been told.
I hope you can get somehwere and find a good, safe solution.
Pls let us know?
