Medication Please? :(

My doctor said that they're not sure whether to give me meds because i have bipolar AND depression =/
and if they give me antidepressants, then they might elevate my "good phases" too much =/
but I think i need them now
they said they could do it but it would have to be closely monitored...

Should i ask?

No one can make that choice for you im afarid, its something you have to figure out for yourself. You should talk to the doctor and get as much info as possible from them before you make your choice.

You should ask. Depression is a PART of bipolar so they are making little sense. If they don't want to prescribe an anti depressant then ask about mood stabilisers.

^^that.
If it's BP, I don't understand why they are considering/discussing AD's in the first place.

That is a very strange thing to say, I am bipolar and i know many other people on here are also and take medication.

You should ask your dr. about mood stabilisers... t hey are usually the treatment of choice for bipolar disorder. Have you been manic before? And if so was there anything that caused it?

Was that to me? The 'very strange thing to say'?
I didn't say no meds, i said not AD's as most can trigger a manic state.
That's why MS's are generally, it seems, used.

Hey there. I'm new here, but I just wanted to say a few things. I was diagnosed with depression at a very early age and with Bipolar disorder a couple years ago. I am on an anti depressant and a medication for bipolar disorder that kind of compliments the anti depressant. I'm also on other medications. I see that mood stabilizers are being suggested, and I think that it would definitely be a good idea to talk to your doctor about that. You will probably have to be monitored and pretty closely at first, and it may take a few tries to see what works for you. It all depends on the person and on the doctor's suggestions. I wish you the best of luck and stay strong :)
