Do you holiday alone?

Hiya! I'm Sara. I'm new here. *waves*

I'm going away for a few days alone. I do this as much as I can - last time was March 2008 and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm soooo excited I know I won't sleep tonight. I've booked accommodation and planned what I'm going to do. I'm going touring for a few days on public transport literally just one buses and trains all the time, aside from the odd B&B - I'm gonna love it.

I was chatting to someone last night about it and then said that was terrible, how miserable it was going on holiday aloneand was totally shocked when I said Never! I've always found it enjoyable. Met some fasinating people and when I want to be alone I can (which is much of the time as it happens).

It got me wondering, I don't think I've ever met another person who goes on holiday and travelling alone. Do you? Have you had any adventures? I've ended up getting lost, on the wrong trains and even on one occaison trapped in the Lake District!!

Sara.

PS I hope this is in the right place!

I just do not have the confidence to holiday alone. My driving instructor used to go on holiday alone ALL the time and he loved it. He said he preferred going it alone because he got to do what he wanted and such

I really have to have someone to share stuff with otherwise I get sad lol.

i haven't been on holiday on my own before but it is something i would love to do. i tend to annoy my hubby when we are away as when we are somewhere i will constantly stop and take photos so if i went on my own i would be working to no-ones schedule but mine.

I always go on my own - other people just annoy me! Most recent (a couple of years ago now) I travelled across Russia on the Trans-Siberian railway, met loads of really interesting people - it's amazing how much you can communicate on just a few words of a shared language! The part of the trip where I didn't really get to meet local people was when I was sharing a sleeper compartment with a Swiss guy who spoke good English - I think everyone assumed we were a couple and left us alone. It was nice to chat to him but not as fun as drinking vodka with the Russians!

I go on holiday alone sometimes too!
I travelled from Sheffield to London then London to Stansted Airport then the airport to France. Stayed for a week, then did the same journey home again :)
On my own. I was 17 at the time and I loved the freedom and space away from people getting at me! I only had one little error when I ended up in tear at the airport because they messed up my ticket and refused to take responsibility.. .but luckily I had the receipt to prove I had bought the priority boarding (I can't sit near men or in certain places.. silly anxiety) and I pushed through and got on :)

Now I'm a little older and my anxiety is less silly I plan to go to New York by myself :P

I think I prefer holidaying alone as to with other people, I like to be alone when I want to be and I like to be able to do what I want when I want.

I've never thought it was odd

On the whole I had an enjoyable time. nI love the freedom of being able to go where I want and when. When I went with other people I found myself wanting to do things they didn't and always ending up doing what they wanted.

Hi Sara

I have too just had a holiday on my own for the very 1st time. Just got divorced and wanted a break, no mates could come, so took the plunge and went by myself.

Only thing I found difficuly was eating alone in a restaurant, but once I did it once, the fear of that went, and I was fine.

Totally agree, you can do what you want, when you want to, and found time to clear my head as well.

Would defo do it again

I found eating alone a problem to begin with as well, but now I just take a good book and sit there reading!

New York for two weeks sounds fantastic!!!! Hope you enjoy it loads!
